2017 Chevrolet Volt Named To 10 Best Engines List

Wards Auto has announced its 23rd annual list of 10 best engines of 2017 and 2017 Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) has repeated its win for a second consecutive year. What makes the Wards Auto ranking a prestigious title for any car model? Rather than testing out the engines on a racetrack or skid pad, Ward’s tests them in everyday situations. Over the years, Chevrolet has built a strong reputation in the industry and is known for launching vehicles catering to the needs of evolving societies and changing resources. With several of its makes and models named to prestigious best lists and the brand itself winning a few awards, the bowtie brand has made a clean sweep of awards this year.

WardsAuto Senior Content Director Drew Winter said that the Volt’s torquey, fun-to-drive personality has placed the propulsion system on the top spot of Best Engines List. Moreover, he also pointed out the innovative efficiency and unequaled flexibility it offers in the automotive world. A car that offers the best of both worlds as it runs on an electric charge for 53 miles and generates energy through a gasoline-powered engine whenever the battery runs out. Drew Winter also mentioned that even though there are a few limitations, Chevy Volt continues to be one of the most unique and innovative propulsion systems ever mass produced.

In response to bagging this prestigious title, Dan Nicholson, Vice President, Global Propulsion Systems said that their team feels humbled to receive such a great recognition as they have worked hard to give the Chevrolet customer more, including more EV range and more EPA-estimated fuel economy, than the previous generation Volt. He also said that winning the award for two consecutive years highlights Chevy’s efforts and success in providing customers with an innovative and industry-leading propulsion system.

Chevrolet Volt is a returning winner of Wards Auto list and is available in two trims – LT and Premier. Backed with a gasoline-hybrid powertrain, the Volt can run totally electric for daily commuting and switches to gas for longer runs. For the 2017 model, Volt got a 20-percent boost in its battery capacity and weighs 20 pounds less. Battery improvements along with other engineering tweaks have upgraded the EV range of Volt to 53 miles on a charge. Starting at a price range of $33,220, all-new Volt is powered by two electric motors with 294 lb-ft of torque, an 18.4kWh lithium-ion battery pack and an efficient Ecotec 1.5L gasoline range extender. Striking looks, interactive interior, cutting-edge responsive technology and advanced safety features are some of the major factors that set the new Volt apart from its competitors.
