Shuriken, also known as ninja star or throwing star, is a small sized weapon shaped like a star. It is associated with the Ninjas because they were the first to use it.

As the name suggests, it is a star, but there are a few deadly edges on it that work like blades.

Today, it is being used as a self defense weapon to battle the attackers. Furthermore, it is being used as a costume and cosplay weapon.

Many people use it for playing star throwing, a sport like knife throwing. I would like to discuss all these significant uses of this weapon!

Shuriken as a Weapon

Most of the people know shuriken as a weapon that was used in warfare. And they are right! It was basically a weapon that ninjas used against their enemies during wars.

However, it was not a killing weapon, rather used for maiming and distraction.

It could only cause slight injuries to the heads and feet of their opponents. It could not cause severe injuries that lead to death.

Shuriken was often used as a tactical weapon. It was thrown on the enemies to cause injuries on their heads.

This caused distraction and ninjas took advantage of that distraction. Meanwhile, they could attack and get an early advantage in the war.

At times, they embedded these stars into the ground to cause injuries to the feet of their enemies.

Today, it is being used as a self defense weapon to deal with the attackers.

The idea is similar. You can inflict injuries by staying at a safe distance from the attacker. And it works effectively as a weapon in such situations.

Shuriken as a Costume

Shuriken is also used as a part of costume on Halloween. Many people who wear ninja costumes also hold these stars to adopt a complete ninja appearance.

Furthermore, cosplayers use it during role play.

When they replicate ninjas on stage, they don’t just wear their costumes, they also hold some ninja weapons including ninja stars.

There are safe to use stars available in the market that are made of foam.

Shuriken as a Sporting Item!

Shuriken is also being used as a sporting item. Remember knife throwing and axe throwing games.

This is a star throwing game which is almost identical to those games. The rules are similar but the throwing material is changed.

A wooden target is built and the star is thrown on the target. It has the ability to stick into the target.
