When I started blogging, it was more of hitting that publishing button than that of rechecking it for grammar and spellings. Not just me, any newbie would do the same. You would have done the same in the beginning.
“Every beginner should make as many mistakes as possible, be it be in the field of blogging or any other field.”
Later with time and experience, one would understand that blogging is not about pushing that publish button but it is just the end of the whole process.
A process? Did I just say process? Yes! Publishing a blog post is an organising process and if you do this for every blog post you publish you would become an organised blogger.
“Organizing a blog post publishing? What's there to organise?” - If this is your question, you must read this post till last full stop. Without organising, you won't be able to manage the content and it's structure well in your article that directly impacts on the search engine ranking of your blog on the whole.
What to organised?
If you asked yourself this question while reading this, congratulations! You are already on the right path to success.
There are certain things that need to be done before the actual writing starts. They are,
1. Well researched material
2. Listed out highlights
3. Related images and graphics
4. A rough layout of the blog post
The above four points are most important for writing any blog post. Why do we need to consider them? Let's see in detail.
Well researched material:
Any topic you wish to write would need related knowledge to put the facts right while writing. Any blogger who wishes to write a topic will not have complete 360 degree knowledge about the topic.
Researching about the topics and related knowledge will help the blogger compose more quality content than of word heaping of husk.
“It's not the length of the article that does well at search engines, it's the quality of the article that is always rewarded the top position”
Listing highlights:
Based on the fact that an average reader will only read the highlights of the article on a webpage, it is considered important to organise the highlights of the topic as bold quotes inside the article or as subheadings.
“An average reader would prefer to skim on to subheadings rather to read the entire article”.
Related Images and Graphics:
Let me remind you of an old quote that says that a picture speaks thousand words than language. No matter what medium of language you use to write a blogpost, you should think of placing informative and attention seeking images in an article.
An image or graphic speaks for the content on the whole. So, be careful in picking up images from internet or when creating them. Also remember that some images are subjected to copyright. As you cannot search which is copyrighted and which is not, it is always better to give credits to the original image creator right under the image.
A Rough layout of the blogpost:
If you are going to write on a topic that needs well-structured information in it comprehensively, better make a layout of your blogpost with all the headings and subheadings before actually start writing the concept.
“A layout will help you finish the blog post in time. The saved time can be used in promoting the blogpost or it can be used for other optimisations.”
How to organise?
After knowing of what to organize before writing, we need to think about how to do it.
“Organising is an easy word on paper and tough when in hand”.
Organising the contents and material to write is organizing on the whole. Organizing is also managing the categories, labels, good hosting, SEO, advertising and promotion.
Categories & labels:
Categories and labels structure the content on the blog. These will help search engines crawl homogeneous pages to users on search.
Decide names for categories and labels before the blogpost is started writing. It will help you limit the categories of the website and intensify the niche it is operating under.
Good hosting:
No matter how good your content is and how beautiful your blog layout is, a badly responding server will mess up your SEO rankings. Search engine bots will inspect every technical aspect in raking the pages; hosting uptime is included in it.
SEO
“Search Engine Optimization is optimizing pages for the sake of people not searches bots”. Most of the people misunderstand this concept as if it is for search engine bots.
Do proper on-page and off-page optimizations to keep the healthiness and reachability of the pages for users through search engines.
Advertising & Promotions:
Advertising and production promotions helps a blogger earn from his blog. The total investment of time and effort is paid off with advertising and promotions.
Even though, the ads and promotions on the web page should never distract audience. Distractions would increase bounce rates and you will lose goodwill of your blog here.
Conclusion:
Little drops make an ocean. Organizing little by little from the beginning will give you full control over the content and the blog. The little the things you organize make you a more organized blogger.
What do you think? Do you feel like I missed anything?
