Rodent Control For Homes Infested With Rats

At Golden Hills Pest Control we have professional expertise when it comes to rodent control. This applies to rats and mice that may have made a home in your home or business, placing you at the risk of an infestation. We start with an in-depth inspection of your property, specifically looking for signs of a nest, rodent droppings, contaminated food and potential entry points in the home. Once we have determined that you have a rodent issue and need rodent control, we will recommend a course of action to eliminate the problem and potentially prevent future rodent infestations. Our rodent control inspection will also allow us to determine if you will need one time rodent control or a periodic series.

How to tell if you need Rodent Control

1) You see a rat or mouse scurrying along the walls.

Rodents do their best to stay hidden. They are very active at night and will scour your home or business looking for food and materials for nesting. They do all they can to hide from people so when you see a rat or mouse running along the walls, there is a good chance that you are on your way to a rodent infestation and need rodent control.

2)You notice droppings and urine stains near food and water source, like the panty or behind the refrigerator.

Rodent droppings are usually discovered in places around the home where rats or mice are nesting and breeding. Dropping may also be found inside drawers, cupboards, and cardboard boxes. Urine stains are easier to spot on woodwork and baseboards. If you have carpets in the home, urine stains can be nearly impossible to see. This makes them an even greater threat to you and your family who may be playing on the carpet. Rats can produce up to 40 dark brown, spindle-shaped droppings a night. Droppings measure 1/2” – 3/4″ long and look like a large grain of rice with blunt ends. A house mouse’s black droppings are smaller, about 1/8” – 1/4″ long, with pointed ends.

Never disturb rodent droppings when you see it. Call a professional.. Rodent droppings are dangerous and are better handled with gloves . Don’t sweep or vacuum areas where rodent droppings are found. Pick up droppings carefully, and place them in plastic bags for disposal.

4) Rodent Nests

This can be the worst case scenario. Rodents rapidly build their nests from shredded cloth, fabric, paper, or cardboard in warm, secluded places close to food and water. Check behind and under your kitchen, garage, basement, and attic. If you see signs of a nest, contact us immediately.

5) You notice damage to the home or business structure

Rodents are constantly gnawing, eating and chewing on materials in the home. Rodents are known to chew through electrical wires and can expose the home to a fire hazard. You may discover jagged, large, visible rat teeth marks in ripped food packages, on door casings, around pipes, or in holes left on your floorboards and walls. The longer rodents are allowed to be in the home or business, the more time they have to cause serious damage.

6) You hear noises in the attics and walls

A home without rodents has some noises, however you can tell when rats and mice are moving through the home inside the walls and in the attic. Rats and mice are very agile climbers who can jump about a foot high and fit through an opening the size of a dime. You, or your family pets, might hear them scuffling and scratching inside your walls at night, or scurrying across your roof. Do not ignore it. Contact us immediately for an inspection.
