Portia de Rossi is an Australian actress, whose birth name was Amanda Lee Rogers. She changed her name when she was fifteen years old, in a bid to form a new self. In an interview, she made knows that she picked the ‘Portia’ part of her name because she was a fan of Shakespeare. She then picked ‘De Rossi’ because it was Italian. “I thought that an exotic Italian name would somehow suit me”

Miley Cyrus

Mley grew up on TV. Her original name was Destiny Hope Cyrus as a child. However, growing up, her lively character caused them to nickname her “Smiley”. Soon, they dropped the ‘S’ in Smiley, and voila, we have Miley Cyrus. Little did they know that the name of their child will be known in virtually every household.

Reese Witherspoon

Her childhood name was Laura Jean Reese Wtherspoon. However, the “Laura Jean” in the name sounded too southern, so she decided to drop it. Then she took the rest of the name to the stage. A star was born.

North West is the name of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s daughter. According to Kim’s mother, Kim had explained that “north” meant Highest Power, which is why she chose that as the name of the child. Thoughtful and sweet.

The birth name of this talented singer is Peter Gene Bayot Hernandez. This is such a mouthful of names. His father started called him Bruno as the child had resembled Bruno Sammartino, the wrestler. When his career began, Bruno then added the “Mars” in place of Hernandez as his last name.

At 14, the actress changed her name from Susan to Sigourney, inspired by one of the minor characters in the Great Gatsby. She was desperate because she didn’t like being called Susie. Now, she prefers being called Siggy.

The actress was born as Elizabeth Woolridge Granthen. However, she wanted a name that was more soulful. This caused her to think so deep about a name that would fit her music and her style. “I wanted a name I could shape my music towards” she said.

Emma Stone

The origin of her name is as quirky as she is. Her birth name was Emily Jean Stone. However, when she wanted to register for the Screen Actor’s Guild at age 16, the name was already taken. So she decided to take on the name that she had always joked that people call her in order to be like Baby Spice – Emma.

Apple Martin

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin had decided to name their child Apple because it sounded so sweet, and portrayed a lovely picture.

Bryce Dallas Howard
