5 Main Causes Of Road Accidents

Road accidents are among the common causes of deaths in the world. Accidents have claimed the lives of both the young and the old. In addition to that, these are calamities that happen suddenly to a road user and they happen quite often. However, the painful truth is that these accidents occur most of the time as a result of human negligence. Most road users ignore the road signs that have been clearly put on the road to help users observe road discipline. Other causes of road accidents also include natural calamities, which are unavoidable most of the time. Therefore, below are some of the examples of main causes of road accidents.

Over Speeding

This is one of the main causes of road accidents. People speed on the roads mostly because they are in a rush to get to their destination. However, when this happens, accidents become inevitable. The accident can occur between an oncoming vehicle and a road user, or a head-on-collision with another vehicle. However, most of these types of accidents can be prevented if every road user pays attention to the road signs.

Drunk-driving

Drinking while driving is another cause of road accidents. A person who is drunk is not sober and he or she may ignore the road signs that are on the road. In addition to that, when a drunk person is driving, he or she is not aware of what is happening on the road. This is the time when a person can go off the road and maybe hit a roadblock or roll over on the road. This is why it is advisable that even when you want to have fun with your friends, one person should stay sober so that he can drive the other people back home safely. On the other hand, if you all decide to drink, then you should consider getting an uber back home.

Distracted Driving

Most people are a victim of distracted driving. If you are driving and replying to your messages at the same time, it is highly possible that you will not see the road sign on the road, a bump or the people crossing the road. When you miss a bump, the car may hit someone who is crossing the road and this is a danger to both the driver and the other road user. Any form of distractions such as mobile phones should be completely kept away when using the road.

Heavy Rains

This is a natural occurrence that causes road accidents. When the rains are heavy, seeing the road may become difficult, and with a blurred vision, you are likely to get involved in a road accident. You may hit a pole or even knock over something on the road without knowing. Also, seeing the head lights of the car in front of you may be hard because there is fog all over the windscreen. Therefore, if possible, you should avoid driving when it is raining heavily and stay safe until the rains reduce.

Overtaking

If you have to overtake, then you should have your math right. If you overtake where you are not supposed to, then there is likely to be a head-on-collision. If possible, road users should stay on their lane and be patient on the road.

In summary, using the road requires attentiveness in that both road users should not be distracted in any way. For instance, both the pedestrian and the driver should fully concentrate on the road and avoid wearing headphones or using their phones when on the road. This will save many lives and everyone will reach their home safely. Therefore, road safety should be adhered to by everyone on the road.
