D.C. Mother’s Day and Graduation Brunch Guide

May is a lovely month if you’re a mom or a college graduate. Or, if you love patio brunches, parties, festivals, and perfect weather. Since there are many things to celebrate in May–Mother’s Day, graduations, and the onset of summer–we’ve pulled together a list of perfect D.C. locales for all of your brunching desires. So, order some mimosas and toast to mom, student loans, and the beginning of summer.

Adams Morgan/U Street

Kapnos

Spend some quality fancy-pants brunch time at Kapnos. We loved the yogurt parfait, the chicken & waffles, and the Greek coffee waffles. Choose from spreads, small plates, sandwiches, salads, or brunch mains, such as omelets and French toast. There’s something for everyone here whether you want a lovely patio, some bottomless beverages, or a solid group brunch locale. MINTWOOD Place

MINTWOOD Place is intimate and whimsical. We loved our mimosas, the brioche French toast, the heritage ham dish, and the smoked salmon dish. Don’t miss the beet & goat cheese pie, bacon & onion tart, and Benedicts. Policy

Head to Policy for the upstairs patio with plush and cushy furniture and string lights. Oh, and the delicious food and $15 bottomless drinks. We loved the Bloodys and mimosas, fruit plate, beignets, Benedict, and candied bacon. You can also choose from the seasonal pancakes, steak & eggs, sliders, and much more. Silver

You won’t want to miss brunch at Silver for the delicious food or lovely patio. We love just about everything here, but we especially enjoy the omelets, the huevos rancheros, the chicken pot pie, the goat cheese bruschetta, and the mimosas. Choose from Benedicts, omelets, French toast, pancakes, salads, and more. Don’t forget to leave room for a delicious milk shake. Brunch is served all-day. Capitol Hill

Béarnaise

Take mom to an authentic French bistro on Capitol Hill, Béarnaise. We love the crème brulee French toast, the L’American breakfast, the Moules-frites, and the croissant sandwich. Enjoy a delicious and dependable brunch from Lavagna and enjoy the intimate patio. You can’t beat the locally sourced and freshly made fare from this Barracks Row staple. Choose from mascarpone pancakes, eggs Florentine, or $12 bottomless mimosas. We love the fruit plate, the omelets, the chicken & waffles, and the bottomless mimosas. Obviously. Hank’s Oyster Bar

Spend the day at Hank’s Oyster Bar and enjoy $15 bottomless mimosas, Bloodys, or sparkling wine. We enjoyed the Benedicts, the ceviche, and the fruit plate. You will have many options to choose from such as fish & chips, a bagel platter, Benedicts, lobster rolls, and more. Centrolina

Centrolina is a unique space in Chinatown that is a great spot for various occasions, such as a low-key Mother’s Day. We loved the French toast with strawberries, the cinnamon doughnuts, the ricotta gnocchi, and the Uovo Pomodoro. Dine on the small patio in CityCenter while people watching in between bites of granola and fruit, mushroom quiche, ricotta pancakes, and more. Graffiato

Graffiato serves delicious Italian carbs in a trendy yet classic atmosphere. We love the seasonal gnocchi, the Brussel sprouts, and the doughnuts. There are also plenty of egg dishes, French toast, breakfast pizzas, pastas, and more to choose from. Don’t skip the bottomless mimosas for $18. Zaytinya

Zaytinya is a great spot to take your out of town family for graduation. The high-ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows make this an impressive spot to bring guests. We loved the large mimosas, Greek style pancakes, French toast, and poached egg dishes. Choose from various Mediterranean dishes such as baba ghannouge, falafel, spanakopita, or cilbir. Downtown

Central

Head downtown to Central for a snazzy prix fixe Sunday brunch. The pancrepes are decadent, the goat cheese Caesar is tasty, the chicken & waffles are juicy, and the frittata is light. The Jefferson

Indulge in a fancy pants brunch at the luxurious Jefferson Hotel. We are fans of the bacon, the fruit plate, the lobster Benedict, and the omelets. You can also choose from steak & eggs, lemon ricotta pancakes, French toast, or pastries. This is perfect spot to treat mom to on Mother’s Day for an intimate girls day. Woodward Table

Woodward Table has an extremely large menu of good ole’ American food and is conveniently located near the national Mall. We liked the Carolina trout, the steak & eggs, and the kale salads. Choose from the enormous menu of traditional entrees of egg dishes and heartier options. There are also many appetizers to select from such as the brunch basket, the butchers board, or smoked salmon and bagels. Dupont Circle

Floriana

Floriana has mastered the ultimate brunch balance–chill, but homey. We love the arugula salad, the Prosciutto Benedict, the breakfast bowl, and tiramisu. Floriana also serves pumpkin jalapeño beignets, frittata, French toast, bottomless mimosas and Bloodys, and much more. Iron Gate

Iron Gate has one of the best and most beautiful ivy-covered patios in D.C. We all loved their steak & eggs, phyllo doughnuts, and baked hen eggs. The lemon-ricotta pancakes and wood-fired burger caught our eyes as well. Brunch is served from 11 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The Riggsby

Step through the keyhole door at The Riggsby and enter another era upon your brunching activities. We devoured the avocado toast, the Morning After Sandwich, the pancakes, and the baby potatoes. There are plenty of egg dishes, breakfast burritos, steak frites, and craft cocktails for you to choose from as well. Brunch is served from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. The Riggsby is located inside The Carlyle Hotel which is perfectly convenient for entertaining out-of-towners and large parties. Georgetown

Café Milano

Step into Italy via Café Milano in Georgetown. We loved the top-notch service and ambiance, as well as the burrata, the chicken and broccoli rabe, the cacio e pepe-style pasta, and the Tiramisu. Choose from a buffet or al a carte menu and you will be delighted by the uova Benedict, omelets, pastas, and more. Don’t forget to save room for dessert! Fiola Mare

Indulge in a delicious and decadent brunch at Fiola Mare. Choose from grilled spring asparagus, semolina pancakes, mushroom and asparagus scrambled eggs, or the Sorrento lemon torta. Don’t forget to order a refreshing mimosa or sangria. We loved the croissants, the Bloodys, the bruschetta dolce, and the cinnamon buns. The Grill Room at Rosewood

Toast to mom or the recent graduate with Rosewood’s unique champagne trolley featuring champagne and wines by the glass, including Dom Perignon, Taittinger, and Billecart Rosé. Try the lobster salad, the fried hen egg burger, or the chorizo and potato hash. We love the mimosas and lobster salad. DC Harvest

Take a trip to H Street and visit DC Harvest. Everything is tasty, fresh, and satisfying at DC Harvest, so the adventure will be worthwhile. We are big fans of the bottomless mimosas, the cheese plate, the egg scrambles, and the fruit bowl. Try the new pancakes and taste the seasonal compote, toasted coconut and pecan, or chocolate chip and banana hotcakes. Impress your mom or out-of-town guests with hipster haven, Maketto. We love the crispy fried dumplings, the Taiwanese fried chicken, and the char siu bao. Head to B Too in Logan Circle for a delicious Belgium breakfast. We love the brunch drinks, the waffles, the bucket of bacon (obviously), and the fancy hash browns. Barcelona is a chic hot-spot on 14th Street with great Spanish tapas and sangria. We loved the lobster eggs Benedict, steak & eggs, and pancakes. Head to Logan Circle for a very yellow patio brunch at Le Diplomate. Try the steak & eggs, the Moules-frites, or French toast with vanilla poached pineapple.
