Hamptons Style : Shades of Blue

Choosing key pieces to create a timeless Hamptons interior.
Start with the style of architecture -
is it grand and classical or relaxed and informal?

Try to incorporate an indoor/outdoor flow to take advantage of the coastal lifestyle. Focus on getting the furniture layout right, creating balance and harmony and maximising the natural light. Think about effective mood lighting. Try to include textures through the use of natural materials in homewares and furniture that is sustainable and authentic with subtle colours and textural effects. Consider materials such as untreated and recycled wood, chunky wool, linen, leather, suede, bamboo, coral and ceramics. Surfaces can be handcrafted or rustic.

Sofas should be above all be comfortable and practical. Whether you choose a fully upholstered sofa or a more casual wicker look, both will work well in a beach house or Hamptons style home. Rattan and wicker furniture are popular in seaside themes because they are flexible, durable, lightweight and ideal for stylish couches, chairs, tables and ottomans. Outdoor furniture should also reflect the natural theme ~ consider driftwood, bamboo, rattan, cane and wicker pieces teamed with cushions and throws.
