Destination Inspiration for A Vintage journey, - sprays and pastes.

Hello all and lovely to have you drop in. Today it is my turn again to share a project over at A Vintage Journey under the heading of Destination Inspiration. As I was thinking about what to write for what I have done, I came to the conclusion that Destination Inspiration is perhaps not quite the right title for my project, Destination Exploration would be a better name for it on this occasion, for when I started I had no idea where I would land up, as really I was just experimenting.... But I hope that what I am about to share, may give you some inspiration along the way too to explore and discover....

So I decided to play with the new Tim Holtz Distress Sprays and try them out on as many different substrates and texture pastes as I could. I created a series of 9 different tags, I will number them, and here on my own blog I will share step by steps for some of them in greater detail than I did over at the Vintage Journey blog, where I am showing all 9 in one go.


So here goes:
Tag 1 Sprays on a plain manila tag:

Colours used: Antique Linen, Vintage Photo, Walnut stain. I wetted the tag and then sprayed my three chosen colours, spritz some more water and then dried with a heat gun.
Next I used the Shattered Layering Stencil and sprayed with the Walnut Stain spray, adhering the stencil onto the tag with some removable spray adhesive so it would stay in place.

Next I did some background stamping, using the Classics 14 and Mercantile stamp .sets in Black Archival

Finally I collaged other stamped elements and finished it all off with some embellishments, including the little alpha tiles that I was lucky enough to receive the other day as part of the huge parcel I got from my win at the Compendium of Curiosities challenge.

Alright, on to:
Tag 2 Sprays on a Black tag:

I die cut a tag from thick black card and gave it a first spraying with two of the metallic sprays, Tarnished Brass and Antique Bronze. To be honest, I was not too excited with the result, so gave it a second spraying, this time using Picket Fence and Peacock Feathers.

Much better I reckon, love the verdigris effect of this, definitely one to remember I think.
Now before I go on, I just want to mention that I think it is a good idea to put some large sheets of scrap paper underneath your work area when using the sprays as I found they tend to go everywhere, this also gives you some great backgrounds, as inevitably they will soak up some of all that lovely spray. Here is a piece of mine that I decided to use on this tag:

I decided to die cut a leaf with the new leaf and matching embossing folder:

This became the main embellishment for the finished tag, here it is:

I used some remnant rubs (they adhere perfectly on the sprays, unlike on top of Distress Inks)! and finished off with some other bits and pieces. Well, that's it for just now.
