Titus 2 In Action
“Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.” Titus 2:4-5
The older women encouraging the younger women, that’s the basis of Titus 2:4. The older women gently teaching their wisdom gained through years of experience and most likely years of time spent on their knees pouring out their worries, concerns, hurts, anxieties, difficulties and praises to the Lord.
This past week, our MOPS group was incredibly blessed by one such woman. She has been a follower of Christ for many decades and will celebrate her 98th birthday next month. There was not a dry eye in the room as she tearfully shared some of the heartaches, difficulties and joys she has been through over the years. She, so naturally, poured out her heart to us as a hush fell over the room for all of us women not wanting to miss one single wise word.
The simple advice she gave us was that for every worry or fear or heartache that arises, take it to God. As a young girl there was a plaque in her dining room that read “Prayer Changes Things.” Don’t know how to handle a difficult situation with the kids? Struggling with how to best love your husband? Take it to God and LEAVE it with him. Don’y pray about it and then 10 minutes later start worrying about it again. That morning with our MOPS group, we prayerfully read over Psalm 91:1-16. What an amazing collection of promises and strongholds! In an emergency we call 9-1-1, but more importantly, Psalm 91:1 (and following) should be our 9-1-1 to God. We should take advantage of the powerful promise of protection in Psalm 91:1-16.
Psalm 91
1Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.a
2I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
3Surely he will save you
from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
4He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.
9If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10no harm will overtake you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
11For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
12they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
14“Because heb loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
16With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”
