5 things to do in Budapest

Budapest is so so beautiful and totally underrated.Forget Paris and Vienna – this city is a thousand times more beautiful and way cheaper and it had the best food. If you haven’t been there yet, go now! Take the next bus/train/plane and see it yourself. Not the best photos can express how amazing this city is.

Budapest ist so so schön und völlig unterbewertet. Vergesst Paris, vergesst Wien – Budapest ist die Stadt! Hundert mal schöner, um einiges günstiger, weniger Touristen und das leckerste Essen. Wer jetzt noch nicht da war, fahrt hin! Nehmt den nächsten Bus/Zug/Flugzeug und macht euch auf die Socken, denn die schönsten Fotos können nicht widerspiegeln, wie wunderschön diese Stadt ist.

Essen
Das geht wunderbar im Kiosk (Hauptspeise ca. 10 Euro, Cocktails ca. 6 Euro, Bier ca. 2,50 Euro) – superlecker ist das Risotto und der Lava Cake als Nachspeise. Das Menza ist auch super zum Mittag- oder Abendessen.

Go to the Kiosk (food around 10€, Cocktails 6€, beer 2,5€). They have a wonderful risotto and the lava cake is fantastic. Menza is also nice for dinner.

Kaffee
In Book Café kann man richtig dekadent Kaffee trinken, denn hier hat man einen wahnsinnigen Ausblick auf einen verzierten Saal. Man fühlt sich wie in einem Schloss. Das Frühstück hat mich nicht umgehauen, aber einen Kaffee ist es definitiv wert.

Coffee
The Bookcafé looks like it’s in a castle. Actually it’s in a book store but you won’t expect a room when you go up the escalator. The breakfast isn’t that special but you should definitely drink a coffee there and enjoy the atmosphere.

Das neue Hotel Aria hat eine wunderschöne Dachterrasse direkt neben der Basilika, mit gemütlichen, gepolsterten Stühlen. Szeniger geht es zu im szimpla kertmozi. Hier kommt an heißen Tagen von Überall feines Wasser von der Decke, man kann in alten Autos trinken oder macht es sich an der Bar oder einem der alten Sofas bequem. Hier gibt es auch verrückte interaktive Kunstwerke: In einem Raum konnte man mit einer Konsole die Bildschirme bedienen.

The new hotel aria has a lovely rooftop with comfortable chairs right next to the basilica. The is szimpla kertmozi more alternative. Lots of young people, when it’s hot water is coming from the top and you can sit in old cars while drinking your beer. There are also very special artworks.

Sightseeing
In Budapest ist alles schön. Man kann theoretisch einfach mal loslaufen und schauen, wo man ankommt. Toll fand ich die Fischerbastei, die an sich nicht nur wunderschön ist, sondern von der man auch einen wahnsinnig tollen Ausblick auf Budapest hat. Dann ist da noch die Basilika, die von innen genauso aussieht, wie man sich eben eine prunkvoll eingerichtete Kirche vorstellt. Für ca. 1,50 Euro kann man mit einem Aufzug hoch zur Kuppel fahren, was sich definitiv lohnt. Dann wäre da noch die Kettenbrücke, eines der wichtigsten Wahrzeichen der Stadt, 375 Meter lang und 166 Jahre alt. Besonders schön ist sie bei Sonnenuntergang.

actually everything in Budapest looks like it’s something important so you can just stroll around the streets. What I liked the most was the fisherman’s bastion, which isn’t just incredible itself but also has a stunning view over the city. Then there’s the basilica which is a huge and very garish from inside. You have to go to the roof, which will cost around 1,50€. The view is incredible! Then there’s the chainbridge, an important landmark of the city, 375 meters and 166 years old. A must see, especially during sunset.

Nanushka ist ein ungarisches Label und erinnert mich sehr an COS. Wirklich tolle Sachen, die nicht allzu teuer sind. Wenn ihr shoppen gehen wollt, solltet ihr hier vorbei schauen. Ansonsten gibt es alles, was es hier auch gibt: Von Bershka bis Zara.

Nanusha is a hungarian label and reminds me at COS. Amazing clothes that aren’t too expensive. Sp if you want to go shopping, make sure to stop by.

sonstiges

• Taxifahren ist in Budapest ziemlich unkompliziert und ein wenig günstiger als in Deutschland. Vom Flughafen in die Innenstadt kommt ihr für ca. 25 Euro. Achtet nur darauf, dass ihr ein taxi von einem seriösen Unternehmen erwischt. Fötaxi und Citytaxi sind die größten Unternehmen.
• Die Leute in Ungarn sprechen fast alle sehr gut Englisch und sind in der regel super hilfsbereit und nett
• Es lohnt sich, die Stadt nachts zu erkunden. Nicht nur, weil man hier super trinken gehen und feiern kann, sondern weil die Gebäude wirklich beeindruckend aussehen. Über den angestrahlten Gebäuden fliegen Vögel in Kreisen, was wirklich gruselig und faszinierend aussieht.
• Es gibt an allen Ecken Burger. Ungaren scheinen Burger zu lieben! Für Vegetarier ist es hier super einfach und überall bekommt man laktosefreie Milch.
• Kreditkarten kann man in Budapest überall nutzen: Beim Shoppen, Taxi fahren oder im Restaurant. Wer jetzt noch keine Kreditkarte hat, sollte sich sowieso schnell eine anschaffen. Ich habe immer meine DKB Karte dabei und bezahle null Gebühren dafür.
• Hier gibt es überall Gösser Radler – das leckerste Radler, das ich kenne. Unbedingt trinken!

• drving by taxi is very uncomplicated in Budapest and a little bit cheaper than in Germany. A drive from the airport to the inner city costs around 25€. Make sure to grab a reputable Taxi: Fötaxi and Citytaxy are the biggest companies.
• The people in Hungary are very good in English and also really nice and helpful
• It’s worth seeing the city by night. Not only because it’s great to go drinking and partying but also because the building look spooky and interesting in the nights. Birds are flying around above the top of the building.
• There are burgers around every corner. Hungarian people love burgers! And it’s also very easy to get great food for vegetarians in Budapest.
• You can use your credit card everywhere: Taxis, restaurants, stores…
