I Just Want All The Cats. Limited Edition Tees!

You all know what a crazy cat lover I am, I'm sure. When an issue arises that we strongly believe in, I think it's important that we stand up for it. I rarely do this, but I felt compelled to do something with whatever skills I could put to use.

Very recently, our local cat shelter lost their funding from the town. The shelter is attached to our veterinary office, funded by the vet, and is run by a handful of volunteers. They are a no-kill shelter who take care of over 100 cats at a time until they find their forever homes, however long that may take.

This rescue takes in abandoned, surrendered, and abused cats. I'll never forget learning about the cat they found left to die in a crate during the blistering cold months in a snow bank. Whoever could even do that to a poor animal is a sick, sick human being. They also run a catch and release program for the town, spaying and neutering feral cats to keep the population under control... and believe me, we have a huge problem in our town with stray cats!

I felt a personal connection to this shelter because it is the place I visit every two weeks when I pick up medications and food for our own pets. In the warmer months, I walk by the outdoor caged area and say hello to dozens of little furry faces looking back at me. I secretly imagine adopting ALL OF THEM so they don't have to worry anymore.

The staff have been so kind and helpful to us time and time again. They helped to save Benny's life when he needed emergency surgery, and they continue to care for Nugget whenever his megacolon gets out of control. More than that, whether they know it or not, they've helped me overcome a hurdle with my anxiety.

Vets always frightened me after I experienced a bad episode at one many years ago. The staff here had made some special arrangements for us numerous times (like coming to our house) so that I wouldn't have to feel uncomfortable or anxious. Because of them becoming such a part of our bi-weekly routine, I'm now able to walk into the office without fear or worry. That sounds silly I'm sure, but it was a pretty big deal for me to be able to do that for the first time in years.

Our town now has a new council and they've decided against assisting with some of the funding. Every year they would reserve funds to help the shelter, and this year they have decided not to. Over 1000 people signed a petition to present the town, but they were still denied. This leaves thousands of dollars worth of expenses every month on the shoulders of the staff, including medications, food, and everything else 100 cats need.

I've teamed up with Teespring to start a little fundraiser to try to help them out a little bit. There are a few t-shirt design's I've put together that you can purchase right here. All proceeds will go to the Wasaga Beach Cat Rescue, but only if each shirt reaches its goal. I would like to ask for your help in spreading the word to anyone who cares about kitties and wants to help.

Thank so much, guys and girls!
