Garage converted into an eclectically designed loft in Amsterdam

Garage Loft project is the conversion of an old auto repair shop into an eclectically designed home by BRICKS Amsterdam, located in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. This home is owned by the designer of BRICKS, James van der Velden who has a creative knack at reviving old properties and giving them a second life. The home is comprised of 1,453 square feet (135 square meters) of living space with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The designer’s vision was to create a home infused with a masculine style, adding a striking visual contrast by intermingling dark with light, old and modern, and layering textures. The most important part of the design scheme was to make space for the many collections of art and decor the designers had picked up over the years. The home features a central atrium space that houses an interior garden, which has been outlined by gridded glass construction. The enclosed space is comprised of only 75 square feet, yet it is spacious enough to grow plants and be connected to the outdoors.

The home features a great mix of vintage finds and re-purposed items as well as inherited pieces. The designer likes to decorate with objects that are slightly generic, such as old lightbulbs piled up into oversized jars.
