Stunning light-filled home renovation project in Brooklyn, NY (One Kindesign)

This Williamsburg home renovation project was completed in 2011 by design studio General Assembly, located across the street from Cooper Park, Brooklyn, New York. The project also involved sustainability design build experts, Ecostruct. This single family home built in the 1950s was in need of a major overhaul, with the existing floor plan too dysfunctional and too small to accommodate its new inhabitants. The interiors were completely re-modeled with a more efficient floor plan with several custom designed pieces added in to make the small space more functional. Special design features encompasses a master bath with a floating teak vanity; custom designed kitchen cabinets with concrete counters; kitchen island housing built-in wine storage; and additional custom storage situated throughout the home, which includes flip-top kitchen benches. The spectacular kitchen remodel also showcases a custom suspended shelving comprised of solid oiled white oak. The shelving is supported by steel bracing which is anchored into a steel plate installed in the ceiling. By keeping the shelving open above the sink, sunlight was able to penetrate the space from a nearby skylight and surrounding windows, creating a bright environment conducive for cooking.
