The Nesting Skills Series is all about making your own home-made versions for various store-bought products. You can see all the posts in the Nesting Skills Archive here. Today I have a fabulous recipe for homemade taco seasoning mix to share.
It’s usually frightening to read the list of ingredients on the back of of store bought mixes! A number of taco mixes include silica and MSG not to mention way too much salt! You don’t have to worry about preservatives and other “extras” that manufacturer’s add to store bought seasoning mixes when you make your own mixes. Regardless if that is an issue for you or not, it’s just a good recipe to have on hand in case you run out of your usual taco seasoning. One less trip to the store!
3 Tbsp. Chili powder
1 Tbsp. garlic powder
1 Tbsp. Paprika
1 Tbsp. Cumin
2 tsp. Oregano
2 tsp. onion flakes
1 tsp.red pepper flakes
¾ tsp. salt
½ tsp. black pepper
1 Tbsp. cornstarch
This taco seasoning mix is very easy to make and you probably have the required ingredients already on hand! Plus you can alter this to your liking – play with the amounts if you like a spicer or milder version.
