Summer Reading ~ July Blogging Challenge 17

Every summer my kids and I participate in the summer reading program at our local library. We all enjoy reading good books and have fun reaching the challenges they set for us. One more that we have done for years and only my youngest hasn't aged out of is Barnes and Noble's Summer Reading program. Kids earn a free book by reading, and my son is aiming for his own copy of Origami Yoda.

When I worked at an elementary school, the classes had "DEAR" time that was to be uninterrupted reading or drop everything and read. This summer, I've encouraged the kids (and joined them) several times to have similar quiet reading time, most often during the hottest part of the day when we aren't comfortable even swimming outside.
