Fun With My Family #216 – 218

Introducing My Son To My Friend Mariflor #216

My son got home from Puerto Rico on Monday. My husband had meetings out of town so my son and I had a fun time in the evening. My son and I went to get some food and then made a stop at Barnes & Noble. While we were sitting in the café at Barnes & Noble talking about his trip and looking at his pictures, I saw into my friend, Mariflor. I met Mariflor in April and really enjoyed meeting her. Mariflor is from Venezuela and is just so much fun to talk to. I was able to introduce Mariflor to my son.

We spent over an hour talking and my son loved meeting her. They talked about college, Puerto Rico, and languages. Her son was there when we got there, but he had to leave. He just came home from studying in Japan. We found out her daughter goes to the same college as my son.

Middle School Orientation With My Grandson #217

Tuesday was an important day! My grandson had to go to middle school for the first time for orientation. My son and I took him since my daughter had to work that day.

We had to do things like pick up his schedule, get his yearbook/ID picture taken, get a locker and a combination, get his gym clothes and gym locker, and a whole list of things.

When we arrived they gave us a check off list of things to do. My daughter had already given me a list of instructions. I gave the school list and an ink pen to my son and told him he was responsible for that list. I would take care of my daughter’s list.

My grandson had a hard time getting his lock to open and was getting a little stressed, but he finally got it to work for him a few times! Yeah! What a relief! I think he was worried that he would be at school and never be able to get into his locker. At least the gym locker opened for him the first time.

Did you know that they have to get a fitness strap that has Bluetooth capability to monitor their heart when they are exercising in gym class? Wow! Every student has to have one. Technology is everywhere.

The thing that took the longest was talking with the school nurse and setting up allergy action procedures. My grandson has a peanut allergy so we had to go through all those procedures.

He had to do IMPACT testing for concussions. They have to take the test to participate in any sport, even cross country.

We got to hurriedly walk through his class schedule. Thank goodness his mom has time to take him back on Thursday to go through things again. I told him that after the first week it will like he had been there his whole life. Going to the big school and doing everything so differently is pretty scary, but he is ready.

This was my first time to take a grandchild to orientation. I think I survived and didn’t mess up too badly!

Open To Receive Day #218

I saw a blog post the other day that I really liked. Cindy from Going Beyond, who is also doing a “year of firsts” posted about an Open To Receive Day. I though that sounded great and it was something I wanted to do.

So today I celebrated my first Open To Receive Day. It’s pretty simple. You just have to make a conscious choice to be open to receiving any and all blessings that come your way.

I had a truly fantastic day! There weren’t many big things that happened today, but I enjoyed all the small things and had a very happy day. When I think about It, the entire week has been very special. I have had such a wonderful time with my family and I am going to have my grandsons spent the night Saturday night. Tomorrow evening I will be going to my first master gardening class. On Friday, I get to have lunch with my friend, Kelly, who moved away and will be coming back to town for the day.

Are you open to receiving all the good things life has to offer?
