Lunch at The Gathering #215

My husband and I decided to go somewhere nice for lunch today. We were looking for somewhere we hadn’t been before for a first. I purchased an Entertainment Book so I looked through for a new place that sounded interesting. We chose The Gathering Bistro and Pub. It was about 30 minutes from our house.

We had a coupon for a buy one entrée get one free. We figured if the place wasn’t great we could at least get one of the meals free.

We went not knowing what to expect. We went in and it wasn’t too busy. We sat in the bar.

The waitress, Priscilla, was great. We gave her the coupon and told her it was our first time there. We asked her for suggestions. She mentioned several items on the menu that she personally loved.

We placed our order, I ordered the Blackened Mahi Mahi Sandwich with Cajun Remoulade, no bun and a side of Cowboy Beans. My husband got the Build Your Own Chicken Sandwich, with the topping options of Swiss, Provolone, Cheddar, American Cheese, Blue Cheese, Jalapenos, Ham, Mushrooms, Avocado, Bacon, Tomato, Lettuce, Red Onion, Grilled Onion, BBQ Sauce, and Bacon Jam. You can have all of those toppings if you choose. He also skipped the bun. He got the Onion Rings as a side.

When we ordered she told me the Cowboy Beans were absolutely fantastic. My husband jokingly told her she should bring him a sample of them. She said she would.

A few minutes later she brought out a sample of the beans for him and a sample of every one of their soups for us to try. She brought us the Seven Bean Soup, (a vegetarian offering), Chicken Tortilla Soup, Colorado Green Chili, Clam Chowder, Indiana Beer Cheese Soup, and the Cream of Crab and Asparagus Soup. Each was served with a small square of corn bread.

The soups were fantastic!! It was great getting to have a sampling of the different soups to see what we liked the best. Our favorites were the chili, the tortilla soup, the clam chowder and the crab and asparagus soup.

When Priscilla brought our meal we were already starting to feel a little full. We split the Mahi-Mahi, which was fabulous. I ate the beans, since he had already had a sample. We shared his onion rings, made from red onions. The were so good! We brought home his chicken for him to have for dinner tonight.

Priscilla told my husband about some of their specialty beers and brought him a sample of one of the beers.

We had such a great experience at The Bistro. The Bistro is owned by a father/daughter team. They apparently are concerned with doing things right and taking care of their customers. This was a first for us today, but I am sure we will be returning many times. We will ask for Priscilla to wait on us. She helped to make it a wonderful lunch!
