My First Master Gardener Class #219

My First Master Gardener Class #219

I did it! I attended my first Master Gardener class. Just let me tell you, I have some studying to do. We took a pre-test to see how much we knew. I felt like I was in a science class. I just took some logical guesses on most of the questions. I guess they will find out just how much I know, or don’t know. I don’t know if we get the tests back next week or not.

The first class was to tell us all about the class and what we could expect. We had a few games to get to know the others in the class. I had a gardening word taped to my back and had to ask questions of other people to figure out what I was. We could each ask one question of another classmate, after we introduced ourselves. Guess what I was! Compost. Now isn’t that lovely. I did meet some classmates. We have to find 2-3 other classmates to join with to do a project for the class. My friend I signed up with and another friend of hers have decided to work together. We may have to find one more partner.

The class is made up of an eclectic group of people. There are college students, medium age adults and some really elderly people. There is one college student who is working on a Permafrost garden at his college and teaching others about Permafrost gardening. There are many other great projects that people in the class are working on.

Next week we will have a class on Plant Science. Each class will be taught by an expert in the field of study. I have lots of reading homework to do. This class lasts for 14 weeks and is every Thursday for 3 hours. I have an assigned mentor to help me with any problems or questions. They have so many events that you can attend outside of the regular classes. I may go to one of the events on Monday. It sounds pretty interesting.

Here is an update on my fairy garden. I have added some new plants and a few other items. It is coming along. I still have some things to work on. I need to build a fence and I believe they need a hammock.
