Get the Look: Boho Chic
From Pinterest - Originally from Rhapsodia.com
The end of the summer holidays is fast approaching, and the autumn collections are beginning to dominate fashion retailer's shop windows. Sigh. How has time gone so fast? Because of this, I wanted to take the time and explore one of my favourite summer trends, referred to by many as 'Boho Chic'.
During the autumn/winter months, my style is basically a combination of greys, blacks and more greys. I let the weather inspire my looks and I therefore rarely inject colour into my outfits, as sunshine in Britain is definitely a rarity! Lately, however, the sun has been shining, and I've been longing to explore many of the high-streets looks and trends. Boho is something I always return back to. It is so easy to get style inspiration from so many sources, such as Pinterest, Tumblr, other bloggers and fashion websites, and I personally love nothing better than scrolling through a few of these to get ideas. My current favourite is Rapsodia, an Argentinian website that rocks its own unique, bohemian style.
Boho-style clothing is often more relaxed, comfortable, and free-spirited, and involves experimenting with a variety of colours and patterns. Often branded 'festival wear', boho is, however, something that can be pulled off all year round, and can be combined with grungier (is that a word?) and bolder pieces to create an edgy look. I wanted to share some of my current favourite pieces from Topshop, New Look and Boohoo - hopefully you'll become fashion inspired too!
Topshop - Folklore
Folk Print Tee - £36
I love how heavily patterned and detailed this t-shirt is! If, like me, the majority of your wardrobe is simple and plain, this tee will really help set your look alight. A t-shirt has to be a staple in everyone's summer collection, as they can be so versatile.
Wear this with: Denim shorts or a neutral skirt to really let the shirt take centre stage. Pair with chunky wedges or flats.
Purple Faceted Stone Ring Set - £8.50
Accessories can really make or break an outfit - if you aren't into bold prints or colours, jewellery can really give your look a lift. I love the colour of the gemstones, and the detail on the rings is beautiful.
Wear them with: Anything you like! Jewellery is always something that you can go a little wild with and experiment. Wear them together or separately as statement pieces.
Moto Short Dungarees - £38
Again, something that might not be everyone's cup of tea - dungarees. They aren't always the most flattering things, but at festivals and during hot summer days, they are ideal.
Wear them with: Either a plain or statement tee, and you're good to go! Go simple on the feet with birkenstocks or trainers, or add a hint of glamour with heels.
New Look - Boho Luxe
Tan Ethnic Print Tassel Backpack - £24.99
No Festival/boho look would be complete without tassels, though I sometimes feel that some products can go a bit O.T.T. However this backpack from New Look has just the right amount, I think!
Wear this with: Again, very versatile, this would suit almost any summer-time occasion - festivals, hiking trips, picnics, you name it!
Orange Chiffon Strappy Paisley Print Maxi Dress - £24.99
As I mentioned before, I am short (5ft 1" to be exact!) and so Maxi Dresses usually never end up in my wardrobe as a holiday staple. This one, however, does come in petite, so hurrah! I love all things paisley so this dress is perfect.
Wear this with: Plain strappy sandals and simple jewellery. Would look great with a cropped jacket when the day turns cooler.
Gold and Bead Charm Bracelet - £6.99
You've got to love a good old charm bracelet, right? The mixture of colours and textures on this really helps create a unique, bohemian look, and will look gorgeous with almost any outfit.
Wear this with: Charm bracelets are a great way to include a feminine element to a look, as well as adding a touch of glamour. They would look perfect with a white, lace dress or shorts.
Boohoo - Spice Trail
Ruby Fisherman Chunky Flat - £20
These will provide any feminine, boho outfit with a rock'n'roll edge, and will be perfect for those day-night transitions. I also love the colour of these so much!
Wear them with: Skinny jeans or leggings for those cooler days, or a cute feminine sun dress in a plain or floral print to create a girly-grunge look.
While the idea of a cape may seem a bit ridiculous, hear me out. As kimonos are made of such thin, fragile fabric, any slight breeze often can result in you ending in a tangled, bare-shouldered mess. By being able to fasten your kimono, you can make your on-trend item look practical too. And how gorgeous is that print?!
Wear this with: A simple, little black dress for evening, or denim shorts and vest in the day time. You can't go wrong with a kimono!
Jess Stud & Tassel Trim Hobo Bag - £22
My final boho piece is this - and I think the picture says it all. Tassels? check. Studs? check. Gorgeous colour? check. What more could you wish for?
Wear this with: opt for simple denim shorts and a tee, or a skater dress for a laid-back look. Also perfect for combining with an evening dress and killer heels.
These are just some of the gorgeous pieces that have been about this summer, let me know if you have a favourite! What trends have you been loving this summer? B.
