Hot milk punch

It sounds harsh, but lately I’ve been feeling stiff and uninspired – paralyzed even.

It’s cold, the house is on the market, work is all maybes and what ifs, and every next step seems to be waiting for something else to get out of the way. Mostly I’m impatient. Which, I suppose, is a good feeling, since I know there are good things to come.

But my skin is dry and I can’t help itching for spring… waiting, for me, has never been the best part.

So, rather than allow the anxiety to take over, I’ve begun to seek out the warmth… getting back into a routine, going to yoga, forcing the calm… and hey, hot milk is supposed to be calming, right?

… and a little bourbon never hurt for creativity and cold.

Hot milk punch

1 ounce bourbon
1 ounce dark rum
1 teaspoon superfine sugar
4 ounces milk (or more, to taste)
Fresh nutmeg, for garnish

Combine bourbon, rum, and sugar in a small rocks glass or mug. Heat milk in a small saucepan over medium heat. Pour over alcohol. Grate nutmeg over glass and serve.
