Preparing for a New Arrival with Huggies Little Snugglers

I participated in an Influencer Activation Program on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Huggies & Target. I received samples for this review and a promotional item to thank me for participating.

I don’t know if you saw my announcement on Facebook the other day, but we’re expecting a new little man around here. That’s right, around Valentine’s Day, the Little Monkey will become a Big Brother to a little Brother. We are very excited and very nervous, as I have never had two kiddos in diapers at once. Come February, I’m going to be going through a fair amount of diapers (not that we don’t go through quite a few already!) When I buy diapers, I generally buy one of the two main disposable diaper brands. I have friends who have used cloth diapers, but I have enough of a challenge keeping up with my almost 2-year-old. I cannot imagine keeping up with cloth diapers for a newborn and a toddler. (I do applaud those mothers who can manage this better than I.)

We don’t have a lot to buy to get ready for the new baby. It’s amazing how much stuff we already have. Most of the clothes and equipment from the Little Monkey can be reused. I do need to get another car seat, and also replace a few items. We did, however, the Little Monkey and I travelled to Target to buy some new diapers for our new bundle– as I said, we will be going through a lot of diapers.

The commercials on television discuss the absorbency of diaper brands a lot, but honestly I have found that all of the better quality diapers, like Huggies, tend to be very absorbent. They all hold a lot of wetness, and I can’t tell much difference between the two main brands of diapers. Have you ever put a baby or toddler in a wading pool wearing a disposable diaper? Those things can end up weighing 5 pounds!

That being said, there are differences in the two primary disposable diaper brands. Most of these differences surround the fit of the diapers. Overall, Huggies Little Snugglers offer a snugger fit that is more contoured than its leading competitor. It’s waist has additional elastic to reduce those “blow-out” experiences. Not only did I compare the Little Snugglers to their leading competitor, I also compared them to the larger sized Little Moves. While I am going to have an itty-bitty in Little Snugglers, I already have a toddler who wearsLittle Movers. When I compared the fit differences between the little sizes of the Little Snugglers and the larger sizes of the Little Movers, I found them to be extremely similar.

The one difference between Little Snugglers and Little Movers is the presence of the wetness indicator strip. For Huggies, it is available only in the Little Snugglers brands, which are available up to size 3. For the competing brand, the wetness indicator is available on sizes up to size 5. I do like this feature, but I have found that it’s more important with younger children. I generally know when the Little Monkey needs a fresh diaper. If this is a critical feature for you; however, that is an important consideration in your purchasing.

Overall, I think the Little Snugglers offer a more contoured, secure fit than the competing brand. I have found the absorbency to be equivalent between the two. I like the plainer front of the competing brand, as I’m not crazy about characters and animals on the front of diapers, but that is a personal choice. I do know that both of my little boys, the one that is arriving, and the one that has already arrived will be using a lot of them!
