New Brand Alert – Nonie Creme Colour Prevails Swatches & Review

Nonie Creme Colour Prevails review

There’s a new nail polish brand on the drugstore block, Nonie Creme Colour Prevails. butter LONDON fans will recognize Nonie Creme as the former Creative Director. It’s been a few years since her departure, and I know I wasn’t the only one wondering where she would take her creative genius.

I’ve kept tabs on Nonie through social media, and when she previewed Colour Prevails last September, during New York Fashion Week, I couldn’t wait to hear more. Colour Prevails is more than just nail polish; the line includes foundation, eye shadow, lipstick etc., in decorative packaging that features butterfly wings. I couldn’t resist the unique cap on the Nail Lacquer, so I ordered a few bottles to try.

Formula & Application

Colour Prevails Nail Lacquer is 5-Free (Formaldehyde, Toluene, DBP, Formaldehyde Resin, Camphor). The bottles are eye-catching with the butterfly wing-shaped cap. The base reminds me of the Nicole by OPI bottle, except it’s more round than oblong.

It’s the cap that will certainly garner the most attention. Though it could be polarizing due to its shape. Packaging fanatics will ooh and ah over its uniqueness. But that can also deter people because they might think the handle is cumbersome to hold. And those who like uniformity in your nail polish storage will instantly wonder how much space they will take up in your Helmers, Melmers or wall racks.

One thing I can demystify is how to hold the cap. Thanks to a comment from Nonie Creme on my Instagram, I learned how to hold the ergonomically designed cap.

Lay your index finger over the top ridge and hold the cap on the sides with your thumb and middle finger. It takes a second to get the position down but once you do, it’s SO comfortable and helps steady your fingers for a smooth polishing experience.

In regards to the juice inside, it has a smooth feel. It’s not quite watery but not at all thick. It’s kind of perfect and easy to manipulate on the nail. And, with the exception of the light gray, the pigmentation is on point. Two easy coats got it done, with three for Clacker.

The lacquer dries nice and glossy though Colour Prevails offers a Lacquer Locker glossy top coat and Matte Finish top coat. The line is rounded out with a Mannequin Hands CC Creme base coat. I only have Lacquer Locker and it is indeed super glossy, with practically no scent, and I’m curious to check out the CC Creme.

Colour Prevails Blue Blood is a rich midnight blue sprinkled with light blue, fleck-style shimmer. Now if the name is conjuring up memories of the late, great CND Blue Blood, they’re not dupes. CND’s is darker and more teal. I own nothing like this Blue Blood.

Colour Prevails Clacker is a light, yellow-based grey with a hint of pearl that visible on the nail in bright light. It’s a warmer version of China Glaze Pelican Gray with a more subdue shimmer.

Colour Prevails Privileged is a bright turquoise creme. It looks more muted in the bottle, like Chanel Nouvelle Vague, but it dries much darker, like a moodier, greyed China Glaze For Audrey.

Bottom Line: I’m really impressed with the formula of this new brand and I am happy with all the colors I selected. Blue Blood is my definite favorite, as I’m a sucker for a shimmery blue, but they’re all pretty and unique to my collection. Even though my first thought at seeing the bottle cap was about how much extra room it will take up in my Helmer, I love holding it. My hands have been unusually shaky lately, like I’ve been mainlining coffee, and the Colour Prevails cap helps me polish better.

Nonie Creme Colour Prevails Nail Lacquer comes in 35 shades and is available at Drugstore.com and Walgreens.com. As of now, it’s listed as an online only product at Walgreens, but that may change as its popularity grows. Colour Prevails Nail Lacquer retails for $8/ea and Walgreens offers free shipping with a $25 purchase.

Do you plan to give Colour Prevails a try? What do you think of the cap with its butterfly wing design? What colors are you most drawn to?
