August began with our annual neighborhood celebration...
complete with tiny parade...
and booths down at the beach.
We went to our friend Pat's annual (but somewhat late this year) Bastille Day Party (
2014,
2013,
2009)
We had our friends Hope and Eddie over for dinner, game night
Dear friends, I have to ask you again for prayers for our friends Eddie and Hope.
(Just a bit of background information: Eddie was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis when he was younger and it is a disease that attacks primarily the lungs. Several times a year Eddie is hospitalized for weeks and sometimes months due to some bacterial infection or weakness in his lungs. The little colds that we get and recover from quickly can hospitalize him for a month. He is on a waiting list for a lung transplant.) This
latest battle with a bacterial infection in his lungs left Eddie hospitalized for over 1 month on IV antibiotics. Upon leaving the hospital he was given hefty doses of antibiotics to take orally. Apparently, they did not do their job. The doctors are also worried about Eddie's weight, which is dangerously low. He also battled depression after his last stay at the hospital and became withdrawn and not his usual cheerful, happy self.
Hope and Eddie were at Johns Hopkins Hospital this week to get a status check up and his lungs are worse. Eddie will be admitted again to Johns Hopkins Hospital on Monday morning for at least 2 weeks of IV antibiotics. He may need to stay longer if the meds are not making the headway the doctors want to see.
Please keep Eddie in your prayers - pray that the drugs would do their job and he would have a speedy, full recovery with no side effects. Pray for wisdom for the doctors, that they would come up with just the right "cocktail" of meds to do the job. Pray for Hope as the travelling and expenses of going back and forth take a toll on her budget and emotional status. Please pray, too, for Eddie's emotional state as this is a lot for an 18-year old to go through. Please lift these petitions to the ears of our God who is our Great Physician and Comforter.
If your family is inclined to make or send Eddie and Hope cards, I would be happy to pass them on to him. Just email me for my address and you can send them to me and I will pass them on to them. Even small things can be of great comfort.
Please feel free to share these requests with your church or other praying friends.
Played a modified version of Storm the Castle to practice basic math skills (subtraction, multiplication, coordinate graphing). Played Quoits, Dobblers (like ring toss) and Horseshoes. Made a model of a Flail. We have finally finished our requirement of 36 weeks of school, but we will be continuing to do some school activities until we begin our staycation beginning on the 21st of this month.
