The Mega Matte Lip Product Guide

Matte lip products are still having a serious moment. I’ve been promising a big matte lipstick post for some time now but I just wasn’t quite ready yet. & now I am! Basically I wanted this post to be BIG. I’m talking huge. Because I love me some matte lips! My lips tend to be more dry so the list I’ve compiled tends to have really comfortable, creamy, & gorgeous shades that don’t tug the lips. I’ve gathered up my absolute favorite formulas & brands here to share with you- keep reading to check them all out including both lipstick & lip cream options!

In the beginning I just assumed I’d be breaking this post up into drugstore vs. highend. This is something we do a lot in the beauty community because they are very distinct & often what people are looking for! This time I noticed a different trend in my picks, however, in their textures! When I lined up my favorite formulas, I realized I had exactly half traditional-type lipstick formulas & the other half were more creamy or glossy. I took that as a sign so that’s how this post reads! For each lip product to make my list I decided I must have at least two products in the matte formula that I truly love & find consistent. I also only chose one from each brand.

Milani Color Statement Moisture Matte Lipsticks- These newer Milani lipsticks absolutely killed the drugstore scene with their sweet scent, lovely packing, & totally comfortable matte appearance. This shade range isn’t as expansive but for a drugstore brand, it is definitely respectable with bright purples, reds, & lovely neutrals. Although these shades claim to be super long-wearing, expect that a more creamy product won’t set as hardcore as some others that are more drying!

Gabriel Lipsticks- Although this line isn’t advertised as matte, I have two matte shades from this line that are just lovely! They take a bit longer to dry down & mattify but I don’t mind! Upon application these lipsticks are quite moisturizing & buttery which gives you a bit of time to manipulate them into where you want on your lips. These are also vegan, cruelty-free, & natural which is a big plus!

Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayons- I’m a firm believer in lip crayons because they give more precision & control so it isn’t a surprise I fell for these beauties. Bite says the “secret is the moisture-locking power of orange peel wax along with the antioxidant properties of resveratrol.” Although very creamy, these don’t rub off as easily as many other creamy matte lip products I own. They are also

Tarte LipSurgence Matte Lip Tints- Probably the longest running & most used up lip product on my guide! I just love Tarte’s formula, staining effect, & varying shades that range from really natural to va-va-voom. My favorite part besides it being a pencil (which you already know I love!) is that it will stain the lips too! Plus I am a mint lover & that leaves behind that soothing, minty tingle & scent.

Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Mattes- When these popped up in drugstores, the beauty community went insane. & with good reason! Many of these shades have an earthy tone & they all have a super creamy finish. They also have an affordable price tag!

Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipsticks- When these hit with their super creamy texture that actually set for long wear…they basically flew off the shelves. With lots of new shades that have been released, Too Faced really made some great choices. I personally love the soft applicator that makes it easier to apply but a lip brush works well too. The best thing is how long wearing these shades are!

NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams- Right behind the Tarte pencils above, I’ve had a love affair with this formula a long time! Applied softly, these shades will set up a bit more. I tend to apply them easily throughout the day because these are a bit more dense & creamy- almost like fluff! & the price is low too!

Rimmel Show Off Lip Velvet Mattes- A newer spin on a recently released Rimmel products, these have a fluffy texture as well! Super creamy, pigmented, & easy to reapply as well. Again- a bargain price as well!

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics OCC Lip Tar Mattes- I have lots of OCC lip tars in my collection but the matte shades are quite unique. One tube lasts this side of forever because you only need a pinprick amount! I especially like the more unique shades to add some mattifying properties & to alter other colors as well. I have issues with these separating but it is worth it. Apply with a lip brush thinly & you’re good for hours & hours on end!

Laura Mercier Paint Wash Liquid Lip Colours- My newest acquisition! These apply with a soft, flat paddle foot & go on super thin. They also have a satin-matte finish that makes them a bit more unique. You can even find some that have shimmer which is harder to find.

Left to right row one: Milani Color Statement Moisture Matte Lipsticks in Matte Glam & Matte Blissful, Gabriel Lipsticks in Matte Spice & Tea Rose, Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayons in Maraschino & Aubergine, Tarte LipSurgence Matte Lip Tints in Fiery & Hope, & Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Mattes in Touch of Spice & Mesmerizing Magenta.

Left to right row two: Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipsticks in Melted Berry & Melted Chihuahua, NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams in Ibiza & Milan, Rimmel Show Off Lip Velvet Mattes in Orange-ology & Atomic Rose, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics OCC Lip Tar Mattes in Kimber & Pool Boy, & Laura Mercier Paint Wash Liquid Lip Colours in Red Brick & Golden Peach.
