Rosebud Bath Melts

Um, I kinda’ love these gorgeous bath melts. The dried mini-rose buds give them an extra feeling of love and romance. There’s something so luxurious about adding skin-moisturizing melts to your bath. You can use these alone or with a bath bomb – I say if you’ve got time to soak in the tub go all out. Do both.

I made these to gift for Valentine’s Day but there’s no reason not to use these any day of the year.

If you dig around online, you’ll see that most bath melts are made with lots of coconut oil. Here’s the problem with that – coconut oil melts at 76 degrees Fahrenheit. Yes, they’ll melt quickly in your bath water but if your room temp is anywhere near 76 degrees, they’re be mushy. No good, right? (Trust me – I figured this out the hard way!)

I suggest using no coconut oil or very little coconut oil. If you insist on large amounts of coconut oil, then refrigerate or freeze your melts until you’re ready to use them. They won’t be giftable because they’re gonna’ stick together and be difficult to handle.

On the other hand, shea butter and cocoa butter will melt a little slower in your bath water but they’re very moisturizing. Note that cocoa butter has a distinct cocoa butter aroma, and you’ll likely need more oil to get the desired aroma.

I used this Wilton mini-brownie pan to make my melts. You can use anything you have around the house, just know that silicone is much simpler to get your melts out of than metal. And, once you use silicone and oils you’ll want to designate those for crafting only because the oil aroma will hang around.

Much love,
Amy

Ingredients
Instructions
  1. Put the cocoa butter, shea butter and optional coconut oil in a mini slow cooker or in the top of a double boiler. If using a slow cooker, turn on low and allow to melt. If using a double boiler, the bottom pan should have about one inch of water simmering on low. If your pot gets too hot the cocoa and shea butter will burn.
  2. Once the mixture is melted, add your Joy, Bergamot and Orange Young Living Essential Oils and stir well. Set your mold on a baking sheet. Add dried flowers to the cavities of each mold if desired. Use a medicine dropper to add the melted butters to each cavity space. Carefully move the filled mold to the refrigerator. Allow to chill for 20 - 30 minutes, or until firm.
  3. Pop out of the molds. Store in an airtight container in a cool place until ready to use. Enjoy!
