I get a lot of compliments (thank you so much), comments and questions on my hair colour. So here are the answers to those of you who are considering going grey, too.

Yes, this is my natural hair colour.

Yes, it’s a huge challenge to your vanity to grow out grey: set aside, roughly, three years, if you intend to keep your hair long in the process. And be prepared to look like someone has dropped a bucket of acid on top of your head whilst it grows.

Yes, it takes a lot of patience. You really need to stick to your hair plan – do not attempt to tint the grey as it grows out! Even the most gentle wash-off tint will leave yellow residue in your hair, and you’re back to square one.

Yes, it will certainly make you look older (faugh!), no matter how you slice it, but if you stay away from the anchor-woman do and the long-arse grandma jeans, I bet you can pull it off and even appreciate the wonders grey hair will do for your complexion.

No, I havn’t gotten used to see myself in this new mid-life light, and I do think I looked better as a brunette (but I also think my butt looked better 20 years ago, and you don’t see me colouring that).

And yes, I wake up like this every morning with the sunglasses and filters and all. As you do.
