Architecture: Solar Pavilion - Extension for The Smithsons

Solar Pavilion
Ever since having this blog architecture has been a difficult topic for me. I don't know why a subject so close to my heart didn't get it's fair share of coverage before. Mainly because most of you guys follow me for the fashion & travel, I guess? I've experimented with showing photo's of buildings I visited with the story behind it, but it just didn't spark you guys like other stuff does, except when they're in a faraway exotic location. Interior design is the perfect middle ground but it's just not the same. What does lure you guys in is my own work, mostly I'm too shy to show it really. But having not enough time to finish up my guide to the Amalfi coast made me reconsider.

So without further ado here is one of my projects from my 2nd bachelor, I know, I know, that's been a while. But for portfolio purposes I redid the drawings a while ago. Remember that I said that Japanese architects are my biggest inspiration, especially their drawings? Well they kind of made me want to draw life in my plans & sections too. And what started out as a person here and there, soon became much, much more. I just adooore mis-using what autocad was made for and drawing people and random objects in their homes & offices. So yeah all these drawings are 100% made in autocad, no photoshop or whatsoever used! Other archi's might look at me sceptical now haha. Anyway the assignment for this project was: a new family is moving into Solar Pavilion (which was made by famous architecture couple The Smithsons to enjoy the seasons to it's fullest). Now, this new family has a lot of kids and needs more space. Staying true to the vision of Team 10 & The Smithsons, I made an open environment where each person is important. Simple forms are key and all spaces are equal (resulting in mini pavilions spreading across the garden). Functional spaces are kept downstairs while panoramic views can be enjoyed upstairs. An open passageway connects the whole, we don't want to get wet in the rain now do we?
