Sunday Social: Personal Taste

I stumbled upon an ad of Luisa Via Roma about personal taste and it made me wonder what is mine. Then I ended with the conclusion that everything is a choice. From our outfits, books we read, the music we listen to, films we watch, course or career to pursue, our preferences, to where we are now in life, are results of the choices we made. It's clearly up to us on how we would change our dispositions in life, and on how we will mold ourselves to become the person we've always wanted to be.
Looking back, I was an obstinate, hot-headed, impatient girl who rarely leaves home on a weekend, seldomly socializes unless I see you as a nice person, and who often dwell into negativity when the going gets tough. Believe it or not, I love to tease people (well, up to now) but I was a sore loser. I hate not winning, which led me to debates (where I nearly punched a good friend on the face), quit even before the game ends, or refuse to try because I knew in the end I will lose.
No matter how hard we try, we cannot please everybody but I believe that it's a matter of acquiring other people's respect without really pleasing them, without changing who we really are, and without giving in to the pressure. We could hate each other's guts and not be friends, but we can still give one another the respect both of us deserve, and to our surprise, even a bit of admiration.
So one day, I decided to change. For the better and most importantly, for me.
I asked myself what I should need to improve. Then I gradually did. From my outlook in life, controlling my temper, busying myself when waiting for something, to accepting failures, and surprisingly, embracing them. I started seeing everything in a positive perspective. When in a heated argument, I learned how to look at the exit direction, and control myself from responding angrily. Sabi nga, pasok sa kaliwang tenga, labas sa kabila (ignore it by letting it pass from your left to your right ear). Instead of stomping my feet and scrunching my face to a very angry look, I keep myself entertained while waiting by reading or listening to upbeat music. When I fail or lose (if something serious), I would cry it out to release my frustration and to release happy hormones, and then eventually try again. It's a difficult road to take but definitely worth it.
So when you hear people's advice about you, or about the things you should do, you shouldn't take them negatively. See them in a positive light, and reflect on what you should do. It doesn't mean they hate you. It just means that they care enough to pinpoint out what's wrong. Drastic changes could hurt you in the long run so take it easy, and do it one step at a time. Being impulsive never helps. It's a long process of reflecting on one's action and choices. It's like getting to know yourself more, and having a deeper relationship with yourself. Be firm on your decisions and be vigilant when it comes to your actions. When you commit a mistake, learn from it, shake it off, and try again.
As to my personal taste, I'm ending this post in a lighter note by sharing with you some of my interests:
