Cuppa reads

Well, the weekend has come around once again, ever so faithful. And yesterday was the vernal equinox – Happy Spring! I know that some of you were forced to mark the occasion with yet another snowfall…but take heart. Spring is here now, and it can’t be too much longer before the weather and calendar align.

Here are a few good reads from around the interwebs this week:

• “Some of us are admittedly pretty social introverts (if I spend too much time by myself, I feel down), while other introverts among us feel quite anxious around people.” Okay, you’re an introvert, but what kind of introvert are you? Take this quiz to find out which of the four types of introverts you are. via Introvert, Dear

• Times have changed: in 1979, a checklist for 1st-grade readiness included this question: “Can he travel alone in the neighborhood (four to eight blocks) to store, school, playground, or to a friend’s home?” via Slate

• On the edge of burnout? “I’ve finally internalized the obvious lesson: the easiest way to deal with burnout is to avoid it in the first place.” Modern Mrs. Darcy offers us her take on avoiding burnout.

• Ever get frustrated trying to read and understand some of the great works? That’s normal. “Sustained and serious reading has always been a difficult project, even before TV.” But it’s a worthwhile endeavor, and here are a few of the reasons why – plus a few tips to help. via Memoria Press

• Did you realize that America is only four presidents’ lives old? Or that the lives of Charlie Chaplin and 50 Cent overlap? Fascinating stuff here. via The Washington Post

• And finally, yesterday was the 11th anniversary of the passing of Fred Rogers, America’s favorite neighbor. In his honor, here is a small collection of inspiring quotes from Mr. Rogers…you might want to grab a tissue. via Relevant

It is spring again. The earth is like a child that knows poems by heart. – Rainer Maria Rilke
