Yoncé

As most of you may know by now, Beyoncé just smacked the whole world right across the face and dropped a visual album with 14 songs and 17 ready-made music videos to accompany it... and I just couldn't stop myself from writing about it. Beyoncé is the quintessential woman; the epitome of female role models. Her name carries connotations of power, command, and dominance - even Obama claims she is the "perfect role model" for his daughters! The fact that her surprise album is able to dominate the charts, and forced iTunes to crash, without any promotions or prior notice WHATSOEVER, further proves that she really is Queen Bey.

Basically.
Her self-titled album contains such a spectrum of themes - as a face of female empowerment, she celebrates the multifaceted nature of womanhood. One of my favorite videos so far is "Pretty Hurts", which I think sends such an important message to not only girls, but everyone, everywhere. The song and video incapsulates the frustration over the facade women are forced to upkeep from the expectations of society and the media; this twisted idea of "perfection" that girls struggle to achieve, and that the media praises with the line: "Perfection is the disease of the nation... It's your soul that needs surgery." It's a really moving music video, and the fact that this message is coming from the immaculate Beyoncé makes it even more exceptional.
Read an interesting discussion on the album here!
With the remainder of the album, Beyoncé continues to play her fierce, flawless self, and features cameos by Joan Smalls, Jourdan Dunn, and Chanel Iman - the top dogs in the model world (In my terribly biased opinion). Prepare your eyes and ears for death by Yoncé.

Have a wonderful weekend, and good luck to anybody sitting their finals! (Don't be distracted by Beyoncé!)
xoxo Beatrice
