Lancome La Base L’Absolu Rouge Review, Photos, Price

Lancome La Base L’Absolu Rouge US $ 30.50 from Lancome stores

Lancome L’absolu Rouge La base is sold as a “Revitalizing highlighting lip treatement that contains Pro-xylane and SPF 10 suncreen” You are to use this balm alone or under your lipstick to replenish, protect and wrap your lips with satiny shine.

I bought this online on the US site. I was a little short of a magic number in order to get a nice Gift with Purchase and was unsure on the lip colours on the screen, so I threw this into the cart assuming it is a lip primer.

Packaging – Like the rest of the Lancome L’absole Rouge line, Lancome La Base one also comes in a black case with magnetic closure. I love the feel of the lipstick clicking shut. The only gripe I have with this is I wish this would have had some external indication that this is the base. I have two more lip colours from this range and I have to normally open to check which is which.

Shade – This is completely colourless with a barely a hint of pearlized shimmer. Swatched on my hand, it doesn’t show at all. On my lips there is a faint hint of shimmer that is only visible if you look carefully.

Texture – Lancome La Base is as silky smooth as all the Lancome lipsticks I have ever used. It is creamy and feels really nice on the lips delivering a good deal of moisture. Does it match up to a lip balm? Not really. I find my Soap and Glory lip balm far more hydrating. The Lancome does a good job of moisturizing, but I don’t think it does much in healing already chapped or damaged lips.

As a primer, Lancome La Base doesn’t really do much. It has absolutely no impact on the duration of the lip colour. In all fairness, there is no claim from the brand on that, so you really cannot knock off any points on that. Also, there is no impact on the intensity of the lip colour, if anything, the colour looks less dense. I use this a lot when I am using a really deep colour and would like to tone it down a bit.

My Experience

Here’s the thing. I bought Lancome La Base thinking it was a base like a primer. It has no effect on longevity or colour, so it really is not a primer.

As a lip balm, well, it’s super expensive at almost Rs 2000! I have greater use for a Vaseline tin than this. Yes it is convenient and looks very classy but….

Overall Thoughts

A rather expensive mistake. I will finish Lancome La Base off, but definitely not buying again. I am quite happy with the lip balms that I am currently using, at a fraction of this price
