Maybelline Color Show Fashion Prints Review, Photos & Swatches

Here’s the first review of the new year! The Maybelline Color Show Fashion Prints ($8.99 CAD each) are a limited-edition nail wrap collection from the drugstore brand that launched in December for the holidays (but you might still be able to find them lingering around in stores for a few more weeks). They are available in 5 different patterns, and I have three of them to show you today!

Nail wraps are one of the hottest trends in the nail art world right now because you can get the look of some of the most complex designs in just seconds. There are really two different types of nail wraps; those made from nail polish and feel like a thin foil (think Sally Hansen Real Effects Nail Strips), and then there are those made from a thicker, more ‘plastic-y’ material and usually have more intricate patterns with 3D jewels, glitters, and other effects. These strips are the latter; they are much more thin than the Kiss Nail Dress, but still have the same feel- so they are a little more difficult to apply than foil strips, but they look quite natural still.

The designs include…

• Wild Reptile: An orange and black check pattern; these strips are flat and quite easy to apply.
• Sapphire Jewels: A navy and silver ‘stud’ pattern; also flat and easy to apply.
• Divine Crocodile: A green, crocodile-scale 3D pattern with a transparent base; a little more difficult to apply but gives an awesome effect.

To apply these nail wraps; you simply choose the size that is best for your finger nail and stick it on, starting that the base of your cuticle and smoothing it out as you reach the tip. Next, use a nail file to shape the nail wrap to the free edge of your nail, and smooth down any rough edges. If you’re trying to choose in between two different sizes, go for the larger one (it takes practice knowing what size to choose because as the sticker conforms to your nail bed).

These wraps are very easy to apply, however the cost factor is definitely something to consider for the convenience aspect of nail wraps. These packages only include 18 nail wraps (in 9 different sizes), so they are essentially only good for one full application.

These sets are cute and fun- especially the Divine Crocodile pattern. I love the transparent base; it gives a really cool effect when worn on top of your natural nail! If you can still spot them in store, give ‘em a go! I hope that Maybelline decides to bring them back (with more patterns too)!
