Guerlain Lingerie de Peau BB Makeup

The Guerlain BB cream was honestly a very last minute purchase and I picked it up as I was leaving the duty-free section at the Haneda Airport. I have been very particular about BB creams lately and hardly bought any in recent years. I find myself preferring the fit and finish of liquid foundations although most BB creams will tout endless list of benefits if you wear them.

Guerlain calls its BB cream a Beauty Booster Makeup instead of the usual Blemish Balm Cream. Actually, the term “BB” doesn’t mean much to me anymore because you even see it slapped on hair or lip products these days, which doesn’t make much sense. And there’s also “CC” and “DD” in the mix.

A few Western BB creams I’ve tried in the past tend to have sheerer coverage compared to Korean ones. The Guerlain version does offer some coverage and I’d dare say it is almost medium. It will help minimize redness and reduce the appearance of some light spots but it won’t cover everything up completely. I have mine in Light and it is a good match on me and has a pink undertone, so it may not work with those with warmer skin tones.

The texture is creamy and a bit thick. It spreads better if you use your fingers or a beauty blender but it can catch onto dry flakes if you use a brush. It doesn’t feel lightweight on my face but I won’t say it is heavy either. The finish feels a bit tacky but it does dry down fairly quick. I prefer not to set this with powder unless it’s a very light dusting of Guerlain Meteorites on top because I find powder tends to create a more cakey effect.

In hot and humid weather, this BB cream doesn’t last that well. By noon, I’ll have the usual shiny t-zone and I can visibly see the BB cream going patchy on my cheeks. In seems to last a bit longer if I use a beauty blender to apply. In cooler and drier weather though, this BB cream behaves beautifully. I wore this on most days during my recent trip to Australia and it applied smoothly, held up well and made my skin look quite nice. But I have to say my skin behaves better in cooler climates and I suffer from less redness for some strange reason. My skin does get finicky and is oily, dehydrated, dry and red all at the same time so finding the right base product can be difficult.

There is a faint floral scent, which dissipates after a while. I generally don’t mind scented products but those sensitive to fragrance may want to skip this. It offers sun protection of up to SPF30 but I can’t rely on SPF in makeup alone and will use my usual sunscreen below.

I think it’s priced at RM165 for a 40g tube locally and it comes in shades Light and Medium. I got mine from Japan last year so I cannot recall the exact price but I think it was close (or maybe cheaper). It is one of the better BB creams out there but I seem to get better results if I’m traipsing around in weather below 16′C.

Have you tried the Guerlain BB cream and how do you like it? What is your current BB cream and your favourite to date? Do let me know in the comments below as I’d love to find out what else is out there.
