Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon in Blacquer

I was so excited when Marc Jacobs Beauty arrived in our local Sephoras as I have read a lot of raves on a few products. I picked up the Genius Gel Foundation and the Blacquer eyeliner because these were the two products that folks have been talking about. Besides, I’m always on the lookout for a good black, brown or grey pencil eyeliner.

Blacquer is the only black and one of the few dark shades from Marc Jacobs available locally. This stuff was sold out in most Sephoras I’ve visited some months back but has be restocked. It is a deep black and is almost matte. It has a creamy consistency but sets quite well. The nub is not exactly pointed and is rather round so I had quite a bit of trouble getting a precise line across my lash line. Forget about doing a wing liner with this one unless you want a very fat, round wing.

Although the colour transfers well, I thought it applied a bit unevenly and I sometimes have to go over with a smudge brush to smooth it out. Removing the eyeliner is quite easy but I’d recommend using a proper eye makeup remover if you want to get every bit off.

The Marc Jacobs Highliner is priced at RM82 and you can find it at our local Sephora. Although it is a pretty decent black liner, I think it is too expensive for what it is and I can get cheaper alternatives from Maybelline or Revlon at the drugstore. So while this liner is nice-to-have, it is not a must-have in my books.

Have you tried the Highliner and what are your experiences with it? Do you think it’s worth the price tag? Feel free to leave your comments below and let me know what are your favourite black pencil liners to date.
