My Morning Routine

No, I’m not talking about my morning skincare routine…my other routine – my food / drink regimen that gets my day started on the right foot and establishes healthy habits that I will (hopefully) carry throughout my day. I think setting your intention for the day is really powerful and if you can always start your day off right, you’ll generally feel a lot better if you veer off track later in the day.

The first thing I do after I wake up is mix 1 glass of warm water with 1 tbsp of Bragg’s Organic Apple Cider Vinegar. I like to think of this as a mini-shower that alkalizes my digestive system. I am particularly fond of Apple Cider Vinegar because it’s a great way to lower glucose in your bloodstream and is a natural anti-inflammatory / anti-fungal. But I would not say I am especially fond of the taste…it did take me a long time to get used to it (and the smell). So if you don’t think you can get on board with this habit, I totally get it. Another good option is to squeeze of half a lemon in water and mix with some cayenne pepper.

After I finish my Apple Cider Vinegar tonic, I mix 1 scoop of Vibrant Health Green Vibrance powder to glass of cold water. I view this as my vegetable insurance policy – if, for whatever reason, I don’t eat an adequate amount of veggies or green juice for the day, I feel a lot better knowing that I drank this. One scoop of this has 25 billion probiotics from 12 different cultures and is an amazing source of Vitamin E, D3 and selenium. It basically has the longest ingredient list ever, but in a really good way: it includes a ton of goodies like alfalfa sprouts, broccoli sprouts, kelp and spirulina.

Last, I eat breakfast. Every single day. I NEVER skip breakfast, no matter what. Those of you who aren’t in the habit of eating breakfast and wonder why you’re exhausted or don’t have enough energy to work out, this may be the culprit. I used to be one of those people who felt nauseated at the very thought of eating in the morning, but I forced myself to eat breakfast every morning, even if it was just some fruit, until I felt hungry in the mornings. Now I wake up hungry and really look forward to eating breakfast. If you’re looking for ideas, give my morning green smoothie a shot and see how you feel. If you don’t like traditional breakfast foods, don’t force yourself to eat them. Who says that breakfast has to mean processed, sugary cereal? Have some salad or leftovers from dinner if that’s what you prefer.

How do you start your day off right?
