5 Simple Styles for Medium-Length to Long Kinky Natural Hair
It is a new year and time for some new looks. For this natural hair style edition, we are including five simple options for medium-length to long kinky natural hair.
1. Twisted Updo
Though the holidays are officially over, I thought I’d include this beautiful, timeless look from Chiaka. Start on hair that is stretched via blow drying, African threading, banding, roller setting, or any other method you prefer. The front hair is twisted while the sides are flat twisted. The back hair is placed into a ponytail and then twisted into a bun. The whole style took Chiaka less than 15 minutes and is really easy to recreate.
Description: Side flat twists and front twists rolled and pinned into an updo
Products used: Shea butter mixed with coconut oil, water, gel (optional)
Tools needed: Bobby pins, donut bun, elastic hair band
2. Jumbo Twisted Bump Hairdo
If you want something edgier and easier, try this style by Naturally Michy. Your hair does not need to be super-stretched; a chunky twist out or braid out will do just fine and add more texture to your look. The hair is divided into three sections, twisted, and pinned. The front is shaped into a pompadour.
3. Flat Twist Out and Curl Updo
Msnaturally Mary creates this look by first flat twisting her hair and placing perm rods on the ends. The resulting twist out is then transformed into a voluminous updo by pinning the curls forward. Hair is left out in the front for bangs as well as at the crown.
4. Big Effortless Curls
Kasheera is one of few Youtubers with kinky hair that regularly wears textured styles, including sculpted wash-n-gos. If you want to wear your hair loose but not completely stretched, check out this tutorial on big, loose curls. The aim is not to get perfectly, smooth curls but high-volume, effortless ones.
5. Jumbo Twist Updo and Bun
Pure Estrogen achieves this super simple look on hair that is previously stretched via threading. The front section is placed into three jumbo twists while the back is placed into a ponytail, twisted, and pinned into a bun. The style can easily be modified for hair that is stretched via other methods, including twist outs, braid outs, and banding.
