FRENCH STYLE
I love French style. There is just something so simple and classic about the way French women dress. From Jane Birkin to Francoise Hardy to Caroline de Maigret, these ladies make even the most casual, every outfit look effortless, and more importantly, timeless. I have personally always been a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl, which is in part why I am so naturally drawn to these looks.
Last year, I read How to Be Parisian Wherever You Are: Love, Style, and Bad Habits in one sitting. The book was hilarious, very forward and I was obviously drawn to the style section, as it outlines the anatomy of the French woman’s wardrobe. The essentials include: jeans, ballet flats, a white shirt, a black blazer, a black bag, and little to no makeup. While this ensemble may sound basic and unintriguing, the motive behind it is simplistic and alluring (i.e. too much cleavage leaves too little to the imagination). Parisians have truly embraced the saying “less is more”—a mantra I try to live by while getting dressed each morning.
Do you have any French style icons?
