Neutral Decor on the Brain

Yes, I am that person. I am the person that loves soooo many different looks and mixes of color that I am constantly bored with my surroundings. Oh, and this is going to hurt your ears, but I am NOT a summer person. At least, not here in the Midwest. There is humidity. There are mosquitos. We get lucky with some milder summer days from time to time with a cool breeze, but an Illinois summer is not my favorite. I wish I could blink and be in Cape Cod right about now. If I lived near a beach I could change my perspective.

But, a Midwestern fall…I AM ALL ABOUT THAT. I blame it on being an October baby. We have the most gorgeous falls here in Northern Illinois. Crisp air, nice temps, green grass, blue skies, all the pretty leaves, apple orchards, pumpkin patches, I could go on…

So, now that you know where my head is…I have fall on the brain in a major way. Don’t hate me. Also, being that I write a design blog, I am already looking to the next season and thinking about what I want to share with you. Yep, I am the girl who is already planning her fall and Christmas ideas…in July. Christmas in July anyone?

CREATING MOOD IN YOUR SPACE

With all this said, I have loved the summer brights I have brought into our home. All the pops of color are sooooo cheery and refreshing. I definitely love a color explosion in the warmer months.

But, I did have an idle 5 mins. today, so naturally I played around with my growing neutral fall obsession. I definitely want more neutrals and layers of texture this coming season. Just FYI, I switched this back to our summer brights after I snapped this. I am just trying to see if this is the mood I want to have coming September and I think it is close.

FALL mood

Did it just get sexy-cozy up in here? I am feeling the vapors. I need to go lay down. For real though, do you feel the moodiness? The cooler nights spent here with the wealth of textures and a relaxing neutral palette? My living room went from Skipper to glam Barbie in about 2 seconds by just making some minor changes.

Just as a refresher…here’s Skipper who I equally love.

SUMMER mood

Do you see what I mean though? Summer is all sunny and girls wanna fun. Again, just simple swap-outs can say something totally different in your space.

I really do love them both. They each say what I want them to say. And it really is as simple as swapping out pillows and changing your accessories. The main pieces in the room stay the same but the smaller items…ottomans, books, plants get changed.

So, with my neutral scheming for fall, can you imagine what this is setting up for the holidays? It’s going to be a blank slate to create on and I love it!

I won’t be abandoning brights completely…you know this girl loves a little pop of color, but are you feeling the neutrals for fall? If you need more inspo, check out these stylemakers for more yummy neutrals done right…

CUCKOO 4 DESIGN

Julia’s neutral living room is complete eye candy. She’s done the pattern mixing right to keep it interesting by mixing different scales of pattern, but her greenery and metallics really shine. See her complete post HERE.

BURLAP AND LACE

Another example of an interesting neutral space. Shannon has really brought the texture with the rug and the sheep skin ottoman. The wood tones and gold lamp give a subtle warmth and the fiddle fig a sense of life. You can see the full post HERE.

So, there are a few more examples of how neutral spaces done right can be interesting and set a mood. I’m completely feeling this vibe for fall, ha! If you haven’t caught on

You can expect to see a variation on my above fall mood image in a few months. Until then, we will be living in bright and cheery summer land!
