Painted Mason Jars DIY

Good morning Blissful readers! Today I am sharing a fun DIY project-painted and distressed mason jars. I have always been in love with mason jars. They have such a rich history for me. Memories of hot Oklahoma summers fill my mind of being in the kitchen canning with my Great Grandma. If you hop over to my blog, you will see that I have them as decoration on the page as well.

I am in the process of making our spare room into an office and I thought it would be cute to paint some jars and use them as pen holders and flower vases. This is an easy project that costs little out of pocket.

What you will need:

  • Jars
  • Acrylic Paint
  • Foam Brush
  • Sandpaper
  • Sealer

I have a lot of jars because I still can. You can buy them in bulk at your local SAMS or COSTCO or in the canning section at your grocery store. I bought the supplies and paint at Walmart and it all cost me around ten dollars.

Directions:

  1. When you choose a paint color, be sure you check out the finish that is listed on the bottle. I wanted a more chalky matte look to my jars instead of shiny but it is all preference. Both will work just fine.
  2. Paint the jar up and down until it is covered evenly and paint the rim in the direction that you would screw the lid on. I painted one coat and let dry for 20 minutes then applied a second coat.

Next, use sandpaper {150 grit} to lightly sand the words and edges.

Seal with an all purpose sealer like Poly and let dry.

And that is all there is to it, friends!

I love that these jars can add a fun vintage look to any home or special occasion. I hope you enjoyed this easy DIY project. Happy crafting!
