Painting the French Doors Black - Part Two
I just noticed that it looks like my floor is two toned in this picture.
That lighter shade of wood in the lower right corner is actually the cutting board that sits on our kitchen counter.
I went home yesterday and finished up taping while charlie slept on the couch.
Let me just tell you that if you don't have a tiny little human interrupting you every 8 seconds while you're trying to tape, this can be very relaxing. Maybe that's just me but I like getting zoned out on repetitive actions. Taping off tiny window panes, folding towels, building 4 expedit units from Ikea.... it's all good if I'm alone and plugging away at it.
Anywho, the next step after taping and trimming is roughing up that frame. Our is made of plastic. Super slippery, paint repelling plastic. I used a scrap piece of really gritty Scotch Brite (the red kind) but you could use sand paper, too.
Once you've scratched up every bit of the frame, you'll want to wipe everything down to remove the dust you just made.
Now it's time for paint. Whenever I paint a door I always paint the top panel and bottom panel before painting the sides. Like this...
BEFORE YOU REMOVE THE TAPE (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) YOU MUST MUST MUST DO THIS NEXT STEP. If you don't, you will cry and have to start all over. Don't you dare ask me how I know this!
Using a utility knife/box cutter, run the blade along the edge of the frame and tape. If you don't do this, when you pull the tape off, it WILL pull the paint off of the frame right along with it.
