My Life as a Swede: What I really think about MN Winters

So I basically think I have the right to call myself Elsa, with my background and all. I've lived most of my life north of the Arctic Circle. However, I have to confess that the cold does bother me, at least here in Minnesota. These are my thoughts about the winter here:

1. The winters are short but seem long.

2. They are so bright and you can even see the sun!

3. There's not so much snow.

4. The roads are not snow-covered, except maybe when it has snowed a lot.

5. It's funny how when it snows a lot you make a big deal out of it, and even call it snowstorms.

6. But I know that it sucks driving here during or after a "snowstorm."

7. It doesn't get really cold that often, when it comes to the actual temperature. However, the wind chill is terrible!

8. My mom thought it was hilarious that the wind chill is such an important thing to know here, and that they always report what it feels like in the weather forecasts. So she said she will do the same with here age. Instead of saying how old she is, she will tell people how old she feels like.

9. I've experienced 40 below several times in Sweden. However, I've never feelt such a horrible, horrible cold as here in the fall and early winter, when there's that icy wind that chills you all the way into your bones.

10. It's fascinating how the seasons can change so quickly here. It was really weird walking around Lake Calhoun in the spring of 2013 and it was 80F and the lake was covered in ice!

11. People run dressed in shorts even in the winter in Minnesota, no matter how cold it is.

12. People don't really seem to believe in block heaters for cars. That's standard in the north of Sweden. You will find outlets for them in most parking lots, and you would also have a heater inside so that you never have to get into a cold car.

13. Same goes with seat heaters.
