NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams: Part 3
I’ve been wanting to put this post up for so long hence why the photos of me in this post are from months ago! I go through phases with my lip products and, for most of this year, I’ve been using matte liquid lipsticks almost exclusively. I’ve already posted on some of the other shades in this range here and here so I’m not going to go into detail again here about texture, price, longevity etc so please check my older reviews for that information.
The shades that I’ve swatched for today’s post were all new for 2014 except for the shade Monte Carlo which was part of the original release. The shades I picked up are swatched below and, from left to right, are: Cannes, Prague, Morocco, Monte Carlo, Copenhagen and Transylvania.
Cannes is a gorgeous muted rosey mauve shade. It’s very pretty and something that would look quite natural (as opposed to nude) on most skin tones. I can see this be used as a good work shade or even a really pretty bridal lip.
Some comparison swatches are, from left to right: Nyx soft matte lip creams in Cannes, Stockholm, Abu Dhabi and London. I’ve got lip and full face swatches of these shades in my previous reviews. For reference, Abu Dhabi is one of my favourite nude shades on my skin tone as it doesn’t wash me out or look too ‘concealer lips’ like. London is more nude on me but is still wearable.
Prague is a muted bright (is that an oxy moron?) blue toned pink. There is another shade in this range called Addis Ababa and that is very bright but of a similar tone. Prague is like Addis Ababa’s more reserved sister and a more wearable option if you’re wanting to break into the bright pink lips look.
From left to right: Soft matte lip creams in Prague, San Paulo and Milan. Prague is definitely my favourite out of the pinks swatched below. Milan is way to light for me and not very wearable unless I wear it over a darker lip liner and top it with a gloss.
Morroco is a bright coral orange shade. This is so gorgeous and very flattering as it brightens the face instantly!
From left to right: Soft matte lip cream in Morocco, Kardashian Beauty Enjoystick in Retro Red and NARS Heat Wave. Morocco is very similar to the other shades swatched below but the other two are more red toned than coral.
Monte Carlo is a gorgeous blue toned red. I love this shade but you all know by now that I rarely meet a red I don’t love!
From left to right: Soft Matte Lip Cream in Monte Carlo, Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Grand Cru and Lime Cream Velveteen in Red Velvet. The Bourjois shade is deeper and more blue toned than Monte Carlo and is my favourite out of the three below with Monte Carlo coming up as a close second. Red Velvet is pretty but more of a cherry red and I’m very partial to a blue tone as they pop more against my warm toned skin.
Aah Copenhagen, the shade that has my heart! I love this beautiful plum shade and have worn it constantly over the last few months. It’s going to be one of my staples this autumn and winter.
From left to right: Copenhagen, Wet and Wild Megalast lipstick in Cherry Bomb, Rimmel Moisture Renew in Sloane’s Plum. I thought I’d have more shades in my collection that were similar to this but it was somewhat unique. What can I say about this shade except that you need it in your life! I’ve seen it on many different skin tones from light to dark and I love it on most people as it’s vampy without being too dark.
Transylvania is a dark violet plum shade and it’s been named quite well! I think it’s a very sophisticated but super dark lip shade. It also tends to apply quite patchy so I wouldn’t use this without a lip liner underneath.
From left to right: Transylvania, Rimmel Lasting Finish lipstick in 04 and Maybelline Color Sensational lipstick in Midnight Plum. The plum tone to this shade makes it more wearable than the other two shades swatched. I have yet to wear it out but I’ve earmarked it for this winter season!
