Blogger Stylin' Home Tours: Spring Edition

Welcome to the Spring Edition of Blogger Stylin' Home Tours! Thank you to Lindsay for creating and organizing these tours for us, there are so many talented ladies participating this time around. Make sure that you check the schedule at the bottom of this post- the tours go all week!
If you're visiting from A Place of My Taste, welcome! You can read all about who I am here. For those of you that are new, my husband and I live in Washington, D.C. in a one bedroom, 800 sq. ft. apartment, and I have made it my mission to be as stylish (and organized!) as possible. Just because we live in a small apartment does not mean that we have to sacrifice on style. And spring is the perfect time to refresh your home- especially after this long, cold winter! So, today I'd like to share a few updates that I've made in our apartment for the new season. First up: the dining room!

One of my favorite tips for renters is to upgrade your lighting. Our apartment was outfitted with dated and mismatched ceiling fixtures, so we recently swapped our old version for this large drum pendant from Ikea. Just make sure to hold on to your old fixtures until you move- you're going to want that security deposit back! I love that the copper adds a touch of glam, and it also reflects the light beautifully at night. Bonus tip: replace your light switches with dimmer switches...it gives you complete control over the lighting, which is so important in a small space!

Of course, this post wouldn't be complete without a few of my favorite spring essentials: sparkling rosè and fresh fruit.

I gave my entryway a facelift a few months ago, but to bring a little spring inside, I added some fresh forsythia blooms and a few jars from my ever-growing ginger jar collection. The yellow is just so cheery!

My DIY Shelving Unit is still going strong, but I made a few updates for spring. I'm in the process of making over my living space for the One Room Challenge, so a few of these things will be changing in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

I organized our ever-growing book collection by color, and I love the graphic statement that it makes on these shelves.

I recently shared the details on this new (to me) vintage bar area, which will also be tweaked in the next few weeks for the ORC. But in the mean time, I couldn't resist adding some fresh flowers!

The calligraphy print is from a friend of mine, and it's lyrics from one of my favorite Civil Wars songs ("I've Got This Friend").

I added a few new prints to my gallery wall, including this photo I took at the National Harbor from Instantly Framed, as well as one of my favorite Matisse prints that I purchased at the gift shop in the National Gallery art museum.

I threw a few colorful pillows on the couch, too. We just ordered a new sofa (!!!) that I can't wait to tell you about, but it won't be here for a while. New pillows breathe new life into an old couch!

And, of course, my favorite candle, purchased on our recent trip to Paris.

But my favorite way to update your home for Spring is to add a cat (or two). They're the perfect furry accessory, and they don't break stuff. Bonus points if they attempt to blend in with your Foo dog statues. You know, a 'life imitating art' type situation.

Thank you for joining me on my Spring Home Tour! Make sure to visit the next stop on the tour: Restless Arrow. The Blogger Stylin' Home Tours continue all week, so be sure to check back! Happy Spring!
