LDD: vibing on the little denim dress

This season, your favorite pair of jeans will in fact be a dress. Just as easy, comfortable and cool as your best jeans, denim dresses are the best thing to hit summertime since iced coffee.

This isn't exactly reinventing the wheel, as jean dresses have come and gone through the decades, though we're definitely seeing a lot more of them for summer 2014 than we have in the past few years.
On the runways, designers have been reviving the denim dress, with some like Jill Stuart going for a sleeker, futurist look, and others like Moschino embracing street inspiration with faded denim and bling-y gold accents.

Here at Buzz, we're leaning more towards a fun and casual approach to denim dresses, something that's street-ready, hip and not too serious. Just in at the shop, there are a couple of new jean dresses from Minkpink which we're really digging for their relaxed yet funky vibe.

Taking a cue from classic bibbed overalls, Minkpink's Instinct Blues Dungarees Dress is a real staple for the lazy dog days of summer. A faded wash and distressing give this style a lived-in look that's easy and cool for daytime, while the overall-style upper lets you play with layering — try a sexy crop top or laid-back muscle tee.
For another jean dress that's still unfussy but maybe a bit more put together, we also love Minkpink's Funday Sunday Dress. Not too much for daytime but totally wearable as a nighttime patio look, this more structured denim dress is cute from all angles, but things get really special in the back, with sexy cutouts and a cool exposed zip.

At times punky, at times vintage, the beauty of a denim dress is the same as that of a pair of jeans — you can make it whatever you want. One of the easiest, coolest looks of the season, how you wear your jean dress is entirely up to you. Work one with flip flops, runners or heels, layered or as a standalone, day or night. Just make sure to do it with the kind of laid-back nonchalance that's worthy of a long summer day.
