Floral Ampersand Wood Sign

This Floral Ampersand Wood Sign might look a little fancy but you can whip it up in no time at all thanks to the help of pretty papers and the Print and Cut Silhouette feature!

I never get tired of making wood signs with my Silhouette CAMEO. And I love the ampersand. To me, it signifies there is more to come. In Old English, it originally meant “thereupon, next”. It also signifies two things belonging together: you & me, coffee & donuts, mac & cheese, etc. So many of the best things in life involve “and”. Plus, it’s just a pretty typographic character.

Here’s what you’ll need to make a sign like this…

Step one: Paint two coats of your chosen paint color, allowing the first to dry before applying the second.

Step Two: Once dry, sand edges and front of sign to distress. Clean with a damp cloth to remove any residue from sanding and allow to dry.

Step Three: Cut Ampersand (sized to fit your sign) on the striped scrapbook paper using the light hold mat (the light hold is so awesome for working with paper!). Use spray adhesive to apply the ampersand cutout to the sign.

Step Four: Open a letter-sized page in Silhouette Studio. Turn on registration marks and open floral design on page. I sized my floral design to fit nicely around the curve of the ampersand (a little over 5″ for my sign size). Load Silhouette White Sticker Paper in your printer. In Silhouette Studio, click send to printer. Then place the printed sticker paper on your mat and cut using your Silhouette with the “Printable White Sticker Paper” cut settings. (To read a more in-depth tutorial on using Print and Cut, see this tutorial). Peel sticker carefully and apply to wood sign.

Step 5: Apply 2-3 coats of sealer, allowing 15 minutes dry time between coats.

If you’re new to Print and Cut, don’t let it intimidate you for years before trying it like I did! It’s not hard as hard as it seems. And like most things, once you do it once or twice, you realize it’s actually really easy. It’s one of my favorite features of the Silhouette machines.

Here’s a close up of the distressing and sticker created with Print and Cut.

Pretty impressive with the machine can do, isn’t it?

If you liked, this project, I’d love for you to Pin it using the button that pops up over the image below!
