Early Review: Tom Ford Moodlight Illuminating Duo

Recently, I ordered the Tom Ford Moodlight Illuminating Powder Duo ($80). This is made for me, and my preliminary thoughts are deep love for this. The Tom Ford Mood Light Duo is currently available at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Bergdorfs.

As readers of Simon Doonan has written, Tom Ford believes in “a moist lip and a dewy cheek.” His Moodlight delivers on the second part. It gives the most beautiful, natural-but-younger sheen on the cheek that’s so gorgeous in real life. You’ll notice that one is a highlight shade, and the other more in the realm of a contour. I know, I know, makeup artists insist that contours must, must, must be matte. Tom Ford doesn’t care. He believes in the dewy cheek.

  • The top shade reads white in the pan, but in truth it is more complex. There are subtle golden and pink undertones. This lighter shade is extremely finely milled. I looked at the Laura Mercier Candleglow palette at Sephora yesterday, but after using the Tom Ford Moodlight, I just couldn’t. Although there’s a significant price difference, the Tom Ford was so much more finely milled. This highlighter is subtle, much less glowy than the Becca Champagne Pop.
  • The lower shade is a shimmery taupe rose brown with subtle silver tones. Like the top shade, this deeper shade is complex and very finely milled. Both sort of melt into your skin and look amazing together. I use this deeper shade in my contour area, and blend it with the lighter shade on the upper cheek. Which now both look sophisticated and dewey. A sculpted dewy cheek.

Swatches are not going to do it justice, but I’m including them. These are heavy, which go frosty. I’ve been using softer brushes (including this Charlotte Tilbury) to apply, which results in a gorgeous look. There isn’t a hint of frost when properly applied, as Tom Ford intended. This duo is melt-in-your skin natural.

This duo is custom built for my coloring and aesthetic. Although I’ve heard epic things about Tom Ford’s contouring cream duo, I’m glad that I waited for this absolutely beautiful powder version. I love it. The Tom Ford Mood Light Duo is currently available at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Bergdorfs.
