When I found myself facing down the scariest black-magic felon in the city, practically daring him to abduct me, I had to wonder exactly how I ended up here.

It all started when I accidentally landed a job as a bartender—but not at a bar. At a guild, populated by mages, sorcerers, alchemists, witches, and psychics. Good thing this lame-o human is adaptable, right?

Then my favorite guild members—three sexy, powerful, and intermittently charming mages—asked for my help. Did they want access to my encyclopedic knowledge of cocktails? Oh no. They wanted to wrap me up in a pretty ribbon and plunk me in the crosshairs of a murderous rogue to lure him out of hiding.

So that's what we did. And that's why I'm here. About to be kidnapped. Oh, and our grand plan for safely capturing said murderous rogue? Yeah, that completely fell apart about two minutes ago.

Why did I agree to this again?

Dark Arts and a Daiquiri by Annette Marie is the second audio in the The Guild Codex: Spellbound. Come along with our snarky bartending human as she once again gets into trouble. Psst..there are dragons!

Tori is settling into her gig as bartender for the guild. Magically the paperwork that would get her fired keeps getting misplaced..lol She is apartment hunting and finds the perfect place. It’s cheap, but for a reason. I loved this thread and think you will too.

Meanwhile, our three sexy mages; Aaron, Kai, and Ezra convince Tori to help them with a bounty by offering herself as bait. Young girls and boys are going missing at the hands of a black magic felon known as “the ghost.” Tori is eager to help and of course things go sideways.

The tale that unfolds has our sassy heroine making startling discoveries, ones she can’t tell anyone not even if it means losing her job. We didn’t get a whole lot of time with our mages, but we met some new characters. I particularly liked Harry.

Powerful battles, favors owed and unexpected allies kept me listening. At just under six hours this series can easily be devoured on a road trip.

If you are in the market for a sassy, snarky, funny and action-packed supernatural urban fantasy … grab your headphones. You may just get to meet a dragon.

Cris Dukehart narrates and has become the voice of Tori. She does a smash up job with the other characters and pulls off the humor and emotions of the story through her tone and pacing.

Dark Arts and a Daiquiri was an addictive, snarky tale with plenty of action and humor. I am looking forward to the next audio, Two Witches and A Whiskey. Look for my review later this month.

Annette Marie is the author of YA urban fantasy series Steel & Stone, its prequel trilogy Spell Weaver, and romantic fantasy trilogy Red Winter. Her first love is fantasy, but fast-paced urban fantasy, bold heroines, and tantalizing forbidden romances are her guilty pleasures. She proudly admits she has a thing for dragons, and her editor has politely inquired as to whether she intends to include them in every single book.
