Desert Rose Ruffles

The release of my very first digital sewing pattern yesterday was PRETTY EXCITING, I have to tell ya. This has been a huge labor of love and the end result is that I adore this dress pattern. I’ve sewn what seems like one million Desert Rose dresses over the past three months and it never gets boring. Truly, after all the work we put into it (I had a lot of help from testers and others with more experience than myself) I think the pattern is perfect. I love the final look and am so thrilled to be sharing it with all of you now. If you haven’t purchased it yet, head on over and get your copy of the Desert Rose dress & tunic PDF sewing pattern right away to join in the fun!

In all the excitement yesterday, I forgot to say much about the optional chest ruffles. Seriously, this sweet design element always makes me melt inside.

As you saw yesterday, the basic Desert Rose includes a modern scooped neckline with clean lines. This ruffle sweetens it up a bit, and might just be perfect if you have a little girly-girl like I do. She loves her ruffles, as long as they don’t swallow her up. These tasteful ruffles are just the right amount.

Some other details that may interest you:

  • Dress size: 3
  • Age: 4 years (she always measures small)
  • Fabric: Porcelain Floral in Navy, by Robert Kaufman from the Lennox Gardens Cotton Lawn collection
  • Shoes: from Old Navy (got ‘em on sale for $6, aw yeah)

Now check out the next two pictures. This girl … I love every bit of her little spirit. She wants to be a grown-up woman one moment, and the next she’s running through the grass, face held up to the sky yelling with indefatigable childlike joy.

And yes, I just said indefatigable. It’s an adjective meaning, (of a person or their efforts) persisting tirelessly. She persists tirelessly in being the most incredible, awe inspiring little spirit I have ever met.

See what I mean? Look at them dimples. Truth be told, I feel as happy as she looks in this picture because I JUST RELEASED A SEWING PATTERN! Just had to let that out.

Thanks so much for reading! Don’t go before stopping by my shop and taking a look at the Desert Rose pattern. I promise, you’ll love sewing it! If you’re a beginner and worried about sewing something with a lined bodice and buttonholes, don’t be. I take you through each step with really clear instructions and pictures. You can do it!

Tomorrow I’ll be back with more Desert Rose dresses (this time using Arizona fabrics, I die!). Until then, happy sewing!
