Monday Outfit: A Comfortable Work Outfit

For a few weeks, I’ve been sharing these paperbag waist Skyline Pants from Athleta. They are absurdly comfortable, look great, and can easily be worn to work on a casual day or for WFH. But I’ve had a lot of questions about how to wear them, so here is an outfit that styles them for a casual day in a professional office.

Pants // The Athleta pants are selling out (I might have posted them a few times, and they’re on sale.). So if they’re not available in your size, these wide leg Marks & Spencer pants and these Susan Graver pants are similar.

If you just want a slim pant, these Elie Tahari pants are a good buy. Plus-size? Try this pair.

Shoes // I’m starting with the shoes because I have had so many questions asking me what kind of shoes to wear with these pants. I’m wearing my Rothy’s with my black pair or my sneakers on the weekends.

For this look, I chose a pair of navy mules like the inspiration photo. You could also do any simple slides you have; the Madewell ones are popular. Need a pair for wide feet? These Steve Madden mules are a good option.

Top // I chose this puff sleeve top from Milly because I can’t resist a dramatic sleeve, but there are a number of ways you could go with this look. A short sleeve sweater or a simple navy blouse are also good options. Plus-size? I like this Marks & Spencer sweater in cashmere.

Accessories // This outfits was screaming for some color, so I chose this <$100 red flag satchel from Rack. Looking for something neutral? Try a navy satchel or a tan leather one.

For the jewelry, I chose this dome ring. It’s a great way to wear a big, chunky piece of jewelry that is still subtle. This Monica Vinader ring is something you will wear for years. Or you can pick up this inexpensive Baublebar pair.

Lastly, I wanted a more glamorous pair of sunglasses. These Feisedy hexagon sunglasses are a great option.

Styling // This outfit says effortless chic to me. So the makeup and hair should be in keeping with that. I’d wear my hair in my usual curler-styled coif. And I’d keep my makeup pretty simple, with a little extra eyeliner for pop.
